John Epperson--or The Artist Principally Known as Lypsinka--will perform his acclaimed autobiographical revue John Epperson: Show Trash for two performances only on Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18 (both shows at 8PM) at The Zipper (336 West 37th Street).

The show is presented as part of The Unzipped Concert Series with Geoff Cohen, Healy Entertainment and The Zipper in association with TheaterMania.com as producers.  The show, which follows Lypsinka's star turn in The Passion of the Crawford, is directed by Barry Kleinbort and features special lyrics by Tom Orr, Kleinbort and Epperson as well as video design by Erik Trester.

In Show Trash,  "Epperson recounts his conventional beginnings in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, his journey to New York, his creation of glamour goddess Lypsinka and the exciting worlds in which they have both traveled since," describes a press article.  This will be the first time in New York that the show - which contains anecdotes, songs and video images of motion picture film, stills, and home movies - will be presented in its complete, two-act form that was first performed at The Studio Theatre in Washington, DC.  The Washington City Paper called the show "Warm and wistful here, acerbically funny there, and peppered with guilty-pleasure anecdotes involving the famous (and semi-famous)."

In addition to extensive credits in everything from film and television to fashion and advertising, Epperson has appeared theatrically in I Could Go On Lip-Synching!, The Fabulous Lypsinka Show, Lypsinka! Now It Can Be Lip-Synched, Lypsinka! A Day in the Life (New York Theater Workshop, two Drama Desk nominations including Most Unique Theatrical Experience; revived in 1993 Off- Broadway at The Cherry Lane Theater), Lypsinka Must Be Destroyed!, Lypsinka IS Harriet Craig! (speaking debut), Lypsinka! The Boxed Set (2001 Drama Desk nomination, touring in various cities including Studio Theatre in Washington, D.C., where it received the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Non-Resident Production and a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor, and Los Angeles, where Epperson won a Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Sound Design and the L.A. Weekly Theatre Award for Best Solo Performance) .  Last year, Epperson played The Stepmother in the New York City Opera production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella at Lincoln Center's New York State Theater.  He and Lypsinka are the subjects of an Emmy-winning television documentary for PBS, and Epperson is the author of a new screenplay called Picture People.
