Elaine Paige launches her "farewell" tour today, October 9. The stage star, 65, told Express she is "tired" of the "gruelling lifestyle" of being on tour and wants to "reinvent" herself.

"It's my 50th year in the music business and I'm saying goodbye. It is just so tiring, especially after 50 years. My tours go on for years at a time and it's exhausting," she said. "I'll have a holiday and then I'm going to reinvent myself."

She continued: "I've thought long and hard about this decision but I feel my 50th anniversary is a good time to bid adieu."

Paige made her stage debut at the age of 16 in 1964. Her West End debut was in Hair in 1968. Among her many West End credits are The Drowsy Chaperone, The King and I, Piaf, Sunset Boulevard, Anything Goes, Chess, Abbacadabara, Cats, Evita -- for which she won an Olivier Award in 1978 -- and Billy. Paige has also starred on Broadway in Sunset Boulevard and Follies, as well as off-Broadway's Sweeney Todd and Singular Sensations.

Paige has released 22 solo albums and has been featured on seven cast albums. Since 2004 she has hosted her own show on BBC Radio 2 called Elaine Paige on Sunday. Paige is also set to host and executive produce a new six-part series exclusively on the UK's Sky Arts beginning May 2014, called The Elaine Paige Show. It will feature musical theater guests and performances.

Her "Page by Page by Paige' Tour will kick off tonight, October 9, 2014 in Wales.
