Dawson, Hoffman, Huffman and Linney Pick Up Satellite Awards

Rosario Dawson, who stars as Mimi in the Rent film, picked up a Satellite Award on December 17th.  Philip Seymour Hoffman, Felicity Huffman and Laura Linney--all of whom are also theatre stars--won awards, as well.  The 10th Annual Satellite Award's winners were announced on December 17th by the International Press Academy.

Dawson garnered the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Comedy or Musical for her performance in the film adaptation of Jonathan Larson's musical about love, death and La Vie Boheme. Huffman won Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama for her performance in Transamerica, while Philip Seymour Hoffman won Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for Capote and Laura Linney was chosen Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Drama for her work in The Squid and the Whale.

Brokeback Mountain, a western about the thwarted love of two cowboys, was the big winner.  The film won the Satellite Award for Best Motion Picture, Drama; it also won awards for Director (Ang Lee), Editing and Best Song.  Walk the Line was chosen as Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, while its star Reese Witherspoon took home an award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.
