Fashion designer David Meister will be honored at the first annual Susan G. Komen Los Angeles "Designs for the Cure" gala, an organization devoted to raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research. The event will be held in association with the Otis College of Art and Design, an institution where David is extremely involved in mentoring students and nurturing young talent.

The event, to be held at the Bel Air Bay Club on October 28, will be the organization's first high-profile gala celebration, raising funds and increasing awareness for Susan G. Komen Foundation's mission during national Breast Cancer Awareness month. David will not only be honored at the event but will be hosting the evening as well. "I am thrilled to be working with such an amazing organization that brings attention to a cause that is so important to me," Meister said this week.

"As a fashion designer," he continues, "the focus is so much about appearance. We really wanted to embrace the idea that fashion is a state of mind that embodies beauty, health and confidence. Susan G. Komen Foundation really makes this message come alive through its impressive campaign to build awareness in the fight against breast cancer."
Meister, who has made a name for himself by dressing the Hollywood A-list - from hot starlets like Fergie and Kim Kardashian to superstars like Diane Lane and Sharon Stone - for their red carpet appearances, has established his reputation through his beautiful collection of day dresses and evening wear and gowns sold nationwide through retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, and Nordstrom. His couture line, David Meister Signature, is sold exclusively through Bergdorf Goodman. Most recently, Meister dressed actress Jane Lynch in four custom-made gowns for her role as the host of the 2011 Emmy Awards.

Meister joined Susan G. Komen as a member of the Pink Tie Guys - a group of men dedicated to promoting the Susan G. Komen mission. Meister will headline the event, being honored for his achievements in promoting confidence and self-esteem in the modern woman, as well as his contributions to the cause of breast cancer awareness. The evening will include a cocktail hour, an exclusive viewing of David Meister's Fall 2011 collection worn by breast cancer survivors, a sit-down dinner, a presentation of work by Otis students, silent and live auctions, and a performance by the dance/performance art ensemble Vox Luminaire. Tickets for "Designs for the Cure" are currently available at http://www.komenlacounty.org/.
