COOL AT CAMP Adult Musical Comedy Set at Teenage Summer Camp is Coming to MITF 2026
Written by Dani Tapper and collaborators, the show will stage at the American Theatre of Actors.
As the Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) officially presents its return to the New York stage, festival producers have named the outrageous new musical "Cool at Camp" as a featured production of the 2026 season. Written by the creative powerhouse team of Dani Tapper, Peter Weidman, Steven Blutig, Robin Raskin, and Emily Stumer, the show will headline the festival's residency at the American Theatre of Actors (ATA) this summer.
"Cool at Camp" is an adult musical comedy that captures the high-energy, high-stakes world of teenage summer camp-but with a decidedly grown-up edge. Packed with sharp humor and a slightly raunchy sensibility, the production invites audiences to revisit the cabins, the lake, and the adolescent antics of their past. Through a vibrant score and nostalgic storytelling, the authors have crafted a love letter to the chaos of youth that is both side-splittingly funny and surprisingly poignant.
"Summer camp is a universal rite of passage, but we wanted to explore it through a lens that is unapologetically adult," say the authors. "Bringing this show to the MITF during the ATA's landmark 50th Anniversary is the perfect way to celebrate the return of independent theatre to New York City."
The relaunch of the MITF marks the triumphant return of a "festival giant" after a nearly decade-long hiatus. In its 2026 season, the festival transforms the three-theatre ATA complex into a massive hub of creative innovation from June 15 through July 26, 2026. Featuring an eclectic array of world-premiere works, "Cool at Camp" stands out as a centerpiece of a season dedicated to bold, independent, and high-concept storytelling.
Performances will take place on Tuesday July 14 at 8:15pm; Thursday July 16 at 6:00pm; and Saturday July 18 at 12:30pm.
