David Magidson to Present MOTHER BOSWICK at the Midtown International Theatre Festival
Performances will take place on Tuesday June 23 at 6:00pm; and Sunday June 28 at 6:15pm.
As the Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) makes its historic return to the New York stage, festival producers have officially named the character-driven comedy "Mother Boswick: The Best Show You Never Knew You Needed" as a featured event of the 2026 season. Written and performed by international artist David Magidson, this hilarious and heartfelt production will headline the festival's residency at the American Theatre of Actors (ATA) this summer. Performances will take place on Tuesday June 23 at 6:00pm; and Sunday June 28 at 6:15pm.
"Mother Boswick" transports audiences to the charmingly bizarre hamlet of Squinch Hollow-a place where curses come with casseroles and the annual highlight is the "Parade of Overeating." The show centers on the titular Mother Boswick, a 121-year-old widow with 14 dead husbands, a penchant for hiding her audience's shoes, and a unique brand of astrological advice. Part Dame Edna and part Dr. Ruth, Boswick offers a masterclass in sharp-witted comedy and "unsolicited advice served with a side of vintage vengeance."
The production is the brainchild of David Magidson, a former Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus clown who has built a global career on the fine line between heart and hilarity. Magidson describes his unique performing style as "channeling" the character, blending the disciplines of classic clowning, drag, and improvisational wit to create an intimate and unpredictable theatrical experience.
"David Magidson is a world-class talent whose roots in the circus and international theater bring a rare level of physical comedy and soul to the stage," said the MITF executive team. "Including a performer of his pedigree in our comeback season perfectly reflects the festival's legacy of showcasing bold, highly original artists."
The relaunch of the Midtown International Theatre Festival, founded by John Chatterton and produced in partnership with indie luminary Jay Michaels and the landmark American Theatre of Actors, transforms the three-theatre ATA complex into a massive hub of creative innovation from June 15 through July 26, 2026, coinciding with the ATA's landmark 50th Anniversary.
