The American Theatre Wing and XM Satellite Radio will present an interview with actress Barbara Walsh on their weekly theatrical interview show, "Downstage Center," on XM's On Broadway (XM Channel 28).

Walsh will appear as the special guest on Friday, January 12 at 6 p.m. The show will repeat on Saturday, January 13 at noon, Sunday, January 14 at 7 p.m., and Wednesday, January 17 at midnight.

Walsh, now starring as Joanne in the John Doyle revival of Company, talks about taking on a role so indelibly associated with Elaine Stritch, explains why her character doesn't really "join the band" in this production and offers her own suggestion of how Forbidden Broadway should spoof her; reflects on shows she appeared in first at regional theatres that made it to Broadway (Company at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and Falsettos at Hartford Stage) and those that didn't (The Rhythm Club at Signature and Houdini at Goodspeed); and the recalls her Broadway debut playing Grace Slick and Joan Baez in the briefly seen Rock 'N Roll!: The First 5,000 Years.

For her performance in Falsettos, Walsh received Tony Award® and Drama Desk Award nominations. Her additional Broadway credits include Hairspray, Big, Blood Brothers, Nine, Rock 'n Roll: The First 5,000 Years! and Ragtime (Mother, Chicago company). She has been seen Off-Broadway in Normal (Transport Group), Birds of Paradise, Stars in Your Eyes and Forbidden Broadway and was in the national tours of Oklahoma!, Les Misérables and Chess (Carbonell Award). Her regional credits include Company (Cincinnati Playhouse), Dinner With Friends (Old Globe), The Sisters Rosensweig (George Street), Side by Side (Muny), The Most Happy Fella (Great Lakes), The Rhythm Club (Signature Theatre) and Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire (Gretna Theatre).

Each new "Downstage Center" program is regularly broadcast at 6 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays at noon, Sundays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays at 12 a.m. (all times EST). Following the initial run on XM, each program is made available for free, on-demand, internationally as both streaming audio and podcast on ATW's Web site, www.americantheatrewing.org.  Visit www.xmradio.com for more on XM Satellite Radio.
