Mark Rylance is the 2011 recipient of the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Play for Jerusalem. Broadway Beat's Richie Ridge spoke with the star immediately following his acceptance about what winning the award means to him. Mark Rylance last appeared on Broadway in this season's La Bête.  In the 2008-2009 season he also starring in Boeing-Boeing, for which he won his first Tony Award. In America he has also acted with the Theatre for a New Audience, St. Ann's Warehouse, the Guthrie Theater, ART, the Pittsburgh Public Theater and the Little Theatre (Milwaukee). In London, Mark was the artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre (1996-2006). During his 31-year career Mark has acted in 48 productions of plays by Shakespeare and his contemporaries. He is an ambassador of Survival International, the movement for tribal people worldwide. 

The Antoinette Perry "Tony" Awards are bestowed annually on theatre professionals for distinguished achievement. The Tony is one of the most coveted awards in the entertainment industry and the annual telecast is considered one of the most prestigious programs on television. The 2011 Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.

Marking 65 years of excellence on Broadway, The Tony Awards were broadcast live from the Beacon Theatre.
