Sydney's position as the most culturally exhilarating city in the Southern Hemisphere, will be demonstrated at an unprecedented theatrical event tonight at Lincoln Center. The star-studded event, entitled "Sydney Presents Australia Plays Broadway," showcases some of Australia's hottest talent at the Jazz at Lincoln Center.

The line up is dominated by Sydney-based stars including the beachside city's favorite swooner - David Campbell (cabaret and Broadway star); Shannon Noll (2007 Best Male Artist MTV winner); Pei-Jee and Pei-San Ng (the doubly talented twin cellists); Daniel Sumegi (internationally renowned bass baritone); Caroline O'Connor (singer, dancer and Broadway star) and the city's own global landmark the Sydney Opera House.

The Sydney Opera House is one of the most visited tourism icons in the world. About 4.5 million people visit the Sydney Opera House annually; this is more than visit The Colosseum in Rome at about 4 million per year and the London Eye at 3.5 million.

Tonight's event will take place at one of New York's own performing arts hub, the Rose Theater, Frederick P. Rose Hall - Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, kicking off the second leg of the G'Day USA Australia Week promotion in New York.

Growing from its inception in 2004 and celebrating its fifth year of success, Australia Week is now arguably the largest foreign country promotion held annually in the United States showcasing all things Australian from trade and investment, food and wine, film, arts, fashion, lifestyle, to indigenous culture and tourism.  This ten day program of events highlights Australia's vitality as a place to visit, and a place to do business in the 21st Century.  New South Wales is proud to be a partner and sponsor of Australia Week 2008.  For more information on Australia Week see www.australia-week.com.
