By: Oct. 31, 2007

The American Friends of Rabin Medical Center (AFRMC) 8th Annual Gala Dinner held this past Sunday, October 28 at Cipriani Wall Street, a sold-out affair of 600 attendees, raised more than $1milliion for Rabin Medical Center. And also included an appeal for medical equipment that yielded 40 much-needed items.

The evening's entertainment was provided by the cast of  Three Mo' Tenors, The Jazz Museum in Harlem All-Stars Band, Johnny Colon and his Salsa Orchestra, with special appearances and performances by Tovah Feldshu and Sherrill Milnes.

The Rabin Medical Center serves over a million patients a year – Israelis and Arabs; Jews, Christians, and Muslims. The hospital shares the vision of its namesake, the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. The Rabin Medical Center is building a healthful and more hopeful Middle East by bringing state-of-the-art medical care to all citizens of Israel and to people from throughout the region and across the world.

Named in memory of the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, in 1996, Rabin Medical Center came into existence as a result of the merger of the Beilinson Hospital and the Golda Ha-Sharon Hospital. Affiliated with the Sackler School of Medicine of Tel Aviv University, it is also considered to be a prestigious, internationally regarded teaching hospital. As Israel's largest medical center, RMC has emerged as the preeminent Mediterranean healthcare and research organization, and as an asset to the world-at-large. It is the sole mission of the American Friends of Rabin Medical Center to make that vision a reality.

Rabin Medical Center carries out the most organ transplants in Israel, most cancer treatments, most heart procedures, and most births. It boasts the country's largest, most sophisticated women's health facility. It is central Israel's primary trauma center, and during these difficult recent years Rabin Medical Center doctors have saved countless lives imperiled by terrorism. Rabin Medical Center research is world-renowned, and its medical scientists are international leaders in colon cancer, glaucoma, gene therapy, and stem cell research, among their many other accomplishments. The Davidoff Center offers comprehensive cancer treatment to 20 percent of Israel's cancer patients. The Felsentein Medical Research Center is an advanced institute for biomedical research. The recently inaugurated Recanati Genetics Institute is the largest genetics institute in Israel, and offers cutting-edge genetic treatment.
