V-DAY revolves around Valentine's Day. But funny enough, began its life around Halloween.

A year ago, I was living in Los Angeles when my good friend David Rossmer came out to the sunny coast. He and I are two of the four creators of ‘Don't Quit Your Night Job, and we were out there, pitching new ideas for television shows.

After a particularly stressful day we came home to kick back with some Chinese food and MarioKart. We turned on the game and David said the music playing over the game's title screen sounded like a Neil Diamond song.

He grabbed the guitar off the wall and started to play the MarioKart theme song. He was totally right. We then decided to write our own version of a Neil Diamond song. Before we knew it, it was 3AM and we had written the melodies to eight new tunes. We sang them constantly. In the car on the way to meetings, in the waiting room at 20th Century Fox., even just bumming around the apartment.

We spent the next few months creating this show. At the heart of it was a true story that happened to me on Valentine's Day, that David had been obsessed with.

V-DAY is a musical about a guy named Josh Cohen, broke and unlucky in love. Right before Valentine's Day, his apartment is robbed of everything except a Neil Diamond CD. Just when things are at their worst, he receives a letter from a stranger that changes his life.

We invited some of the most talented and respected people we know to play along with the promise of a lot of fun and no money. We expected a lot of no's but to our shock and amazement, everyone said yes. So now we he have the pleasure and honor of sharing this sweet, funny and true story with you at this year's NYMF festival.

If you've ever been broke and alone on Valentine's Day, come hang out with us at Urban Stages.
