This has been a dream almost 5 years in the making for the creative team behind TROUBLE: A NEW ROCK MUSICAL playing at The Pershing Square Signature Center in this years festival. There are always a lot of hurdles to overcome (and we’re especially thankful to Mike Cohen at NYMF for being such a wonderful advocate for us in the early days of this festival) not the least of which was the over $50,000 we needed to raise to get this show up. We’ve had casting changes, sets that needed to be flameproofed, website screw ups, even theft of our (super trendy) costumes! It’s almost enough to make you go: why am I even doing this?!? Well: as the man who has lain awake at night asking himself that pretty frequently over the last two months I found my answer this week when I saw the first run through of the show. All the late nights and headaches suddenly amounted to zero when I got lost in the show. Let me tell you, Trouble is something special. This show might just seem like it’s geared toward high schoolers or my early 20 something generation but I know there’s a universality to the experiences that Michael and Ella write so beautifully about in the show. We even had a 70 year old man come up to us incredibly moved after one performance at the NYMF Hub. He said he felt 16 again! So, come see these incredibly talented (and incredibly attractive) group of performers sing their hearts out on stage for you and I’m sure you’ll remember that special person you loved at age 16 or that crazy night you stole your grandma’s Buick to go to a drive in. It’s all there. But more than that, come see all of us, cast, crew, and creative, make our dreams come true and share this story with you. We’ve got a lot of joy in what we do and I hope you’ll let us share that with you. You’ll be glad you did.
