(02/27/2014) - The career versus marriage debate has been going on ever since women's lib first appeared on the scene and made it an issue. And if you think there can be nothing new to be said on the subject, then RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN, by Pulitzer Prize nominated playwright, Gina Gionfriddo, is sure to make you think again.

(01/13/2014) - Who would have thought that a cheap, black and white horror movie, shot in 1960 by Roger Corman in just two days, would resurface some 20 years later, to become an off-Broadway musical comedy smash hit? The show, in its new incarnation (created by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken) ran for over four years, before transferring to Broadway and from there to London's West End.
(10/22/2013) - UNM's Department of Theatre and Dance proudly presents Spring Awakening, Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik's rock musical adaptation of Frank Wedekind's controversial play, in Rodey Theatre, November 1 through 17, 2013. Set against the backdrop of a repressive and provincial late 19th century Germany, Spring Awakening tells the timeless story of the trials, tribulations, and exhilaration of self-discovery and budding sexuality as seen through the eyes of a group of teenagers. Haunting and provocative, Spring Awakening celebrates an unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with a power, a poignancy and a passion you will never forget. Check out a first look below!
(10/20/2013) - Sometimes the appearance of a simple story contains universal issues such as loss, abandonment, renewal, and hope for the future. Set in Depression era dustbowl Oklahoma, W.G.Allen's play, Lost Letter grapples with all of these with love and humor.
(09/02/2013) - The three comics who were inspired to condense all of Shakespeare's 37 plays into 97 minutes - and then went ahead and did it - had no idea where that whacky idea would lead. First performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1987, THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield, went on to become a runaway success, playing at the Criterion Theatre in London for over ten years. It has since been translated into dozens of different languages and has become a world-wide theatrical phenomenon. Whether you love Shakespeare, hate him or are completely indifferent, do yourself a favor and head over to Albuquerque Little Theatre, for an evening of guaranteed hilarity.
(08/12/2013) - No single word can adequately sum up Kaye Ballard and Liliane Montevecchi's one night appearance at the Lensic Performing Arts Center on August 8th.Their performance was engaging, entertaining, inspiring and uplifting, with a pace that never faltered and an array of talents guaranteed to keep the audience glued to their seats all the way through. In other words, it was a dose of good, old-fashioned entertainment.
(08/03/2013) - There is virtually nothing in the world of show business that Kaye Ballard and Liliane Montevecchi haven't left their mark on - acting, singing, story-telling, comedy, cabaret, dancing. . . in movies, on TV and performing live on stage - they've done it all. These legendary stars have over a century of artistic experience between them and, when I caught up with them between rehearsals for their upcoming show at the Lensic Performing Arts center in Santa Fe, it was abundantly clear that they show no signs of slowing down.
(06/10/2013) - Since it began in 2003, Fusion Theatre Company's festival of short works, THE SEVEN, has acquired a reputation as one of the most notable events of its kind in the nation, and even beyond. . .
(05/26/2013) - Duke City Rep is celebrating its first appearance at the Cell Theatre with a feisty production of Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, a comedy by award- winning playwright, Alan Ball (American Beauty.)
Set in Knoxville, Tennessee, the play features five, very different bridesmaids, all reluctant participants in a fancy, over-the-top, Southern wedding. Having survived the ceremony itself, they are now taking refuge in the upstairs bedroom of the bride's rebellious, pot-smoking younger sister, Meredith, as the reception proceeds on the lawn below.
(04/29/2013) - I have a great deal of respect and admiration for the Fusion Theatre Company. Their productions are highly professional, well produced and consistently deliver good, solid theatrical entertainment. So it pains me considerably to have to say that HUMBLE BOY, which opened at the Cell Theatre on April 25, falls disappointingly short of the mark.
(04/15/2013) - LOVE, LOSS AND WHAT I WORE, now playing at Aux Dog Theatre, deals with far more meaningful topics than the title may suggest. Written by Nora Ephron (WHEN HARRY MET SALLY, SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE…) and sister, Delia Ephron, this is definitely a theatrical experience by, for and about, women.
(03/11/2013) - CLYBOURNE PARK is not an easy play on which to slap a label. Part drama, part social history, part cultural commentary, woven together with humor that, in turn, inspires laughter, makes you wince, or leaves you squirming uncomfortably in your seat, this is not your usual theatrical fare. Also well-crafted (it won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for drama) provocative and thought- provoking, Bruce Norris's play is an experience not to be missed.
(02/25/2013) - ALL MY SONS is a classic Arthur Miller psychological drama about a family torn apart by the unraveling of its own dark secrets. First produced in 1947 and based on a true story, the play (which became Miller's first Broadway success) is a timely reminder of the devastating impact that misguided personal decisions can have on the world at large.
(02/11/2013) - DEFENDING THE CAVEMAN, comedian Rob Becker's one-man show about the age-old battle of the sexes, first appeared in San Francisco in 1991. It went on to become the longest running solo show on Broadway and, since then, has been translated into 16 different languages and been produced in over 35 different countries. It was presented, last weekend, at the Kimo theater, featuring Cody Lyman as the classic 'every man' figure.
(11/05/2012) - FREUD'S LAST SESSION, the off-Broadway runaway hit by Mark St. Germain, is now playing at The Cell - home of the Fusion Theatre Company - and I urge you not to miss it!
(10/29/2012) - This original show focuses on the relationship between Fyodor Dostoevsky and the much younger stenographer, Anna Snitkina, who he embarks in a relationship with in his last years. The device of the characters evolving affair allows the playwright to reveal many facets of Dostoevsky's life.
(09/27/2012) - THE CAPITOL STEPS has been delighting audiences with political satire for over 30 years and is now something of a national institution. The group was born in December 1981 ('when Reagan was president and ketchup was a vegetable') when some Senate staffers got together to devise entertainment for their upcoming Christmas party. They came up with the novel idea of satirizing, to music, the very hands that fed them. And the rest, as they say, is history. . .
(09/14/2012) - As part of the Bicentennial of Jane Austen's great novel, a production of "Pride and Prejudice" will be staged at the ADOBE Theater starting Sept. 14th. This brilliant adaptation tells of the Bennet family that hopes to arrange profitable marriages for their five daughters. Leslee Richards (who previously directed the excellent "Rabbit Hole" and "Talley's Folly") selected this acclaimed play (by Joseph Hanreddy and J. R. Sullivan) for her next project, assisted by choreographer Judith Chazin-Bennahum for some lively dances. A large cast in period costumes will perform the play that will run through Oct. 7. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the show below.
(09/08/2012) - It's not easy to slap a label on OTHER DESERT CITIES. Jon Robin Baitz has created a play that is truly a hybrid, combining laugh-out-loud humor with pin-drop silence, mystery and mounting suspense. . .
(08/28/2012) - The Santa Fe Playhouse is the oldest, continuously running community theater west of the Mississippi, and summer would not be complete without its production of the FIESTA MELODRAMA. Reinvented each year by an anonymous committee of local writers (whose identity wisely remains a well-guarded secret) the melodrama has established itself as a good-natured, satirical send-up of some of the most noteworthy personalities, eccentricities and scandalous happenings in the City Different during the previous 12 months...
(08/17/2012) - She's a snappy old battleaxe, outspoken, bossy and irreverent. But, without question, that blue-haired Mama is so very rational-and funny. Comedian Vicki Lawrence's brilliant alter ego "Mama" Thelma Harper is back, eager to share her observations about political happenings, cultural trends and domestic struggles with the same spit and vinegar that won hearts across the land. Lawrence, an Emmy Award-winning actress, will also be on hand, dispensing her savvy humor and performance memories from her cherished time on The Carol Burnett Show (1967-1978) and in her own spin-off series, "Mama's Family" (1983-1990). BroadwayWorld has a first look at the production photos below.

(07/23/2012) - By any standards, DOIN' IT FOR LOVE, presented as a benefit for the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe, was a rare, delicious treat. For two nights only, on July 20 and 21, three of the most well known names in show business - Kaye Ballard, Liliane Montevecchi and Lee Roy Reams - teamed up to deliver a delightful, nostalgic stroll down memory lane. . .
(07/09/2012) - GAS LIGHT, a Victorian thriller by British dramatist, Patrick Hamilton, opened in London in 1939 and in 1941 appeared on Broadway under the title, ANGEL STREET. The dark, psychological thriller about a murderous, scheming husband, who sets out to convince his wife that she is going mad, was an instant success and went on to become one of the longest-running non-musical shows in Broadway's history...
(06/04/2012) - THE MEN OF MAH JONGG is not your typical comedy. Watching four, aging Jewish guys, sitting around in a New York apartment, kvetching about life, love, money and relationships, doesn't exactly sound much like a fun-filled scenario. . .
(05/13/2012) - PHOENIX, by NY playwright Scott Organ, is not your standard romantic comedy. Four weeks after a one night stand, Sue and Bruce meet again. She tells him she really likes him, had a great time with him, but doesn't want to see him again. . .
(08/29/2011) - On Saturday August 27, 2011, BroadwayWorld.com's CEO/Editor-in-Chief Robert Diamond, in the midst of Hurricane Irene married actress Jennifer Hallie Rosen after a 17 month engagement. The two were introduced by a friend of Rosen's, who wasn't able to make the wedding, as a result of the weather and warnings throughout all the boroughs. The BroadwayWorld.com News Desk stayed feverish all weekend while the couple said 'I Do', as news was coming fast about theatre cancellations, schedule changes and travel advisories in addition to all things that were happening in other parts of the country and the world, not affected by the Northeast's local weather.
