SEQUINS Celebrates the Sixties at the Adelaide Cabaret Fringe

Sequins, a Brazilian and the Power of the Sixties offers two stories, both set to a soundtrack of the1960s.

The show is a collaboration between two Adelaide performers, Alison Kimber and Shelley Dunstone.

Alison Kimber has been in love with singing ever since she was a little girl. With her hairbrush microphone in one hand and the neighbourhood at her feet, she dreamed of stardom and sequins.

Roll on a few years and Alison's life was a successful corporate career, a gorgeous family and her own guilty pleasure - singing gushy love songs in the car where no one else could hear.

In Sequins, Alison reveals how a little girl was inspired by singers like Nancy and Dusty, Petula and Cilla. More than just sequins and big voices, these women had power and sass.

Shelley Dunstone is a Brazilian music devotee, and has performed at the famous Bottles Bar in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, where the top Bossa Nova artists played in the 1960s.

In this show, Shelley tells the story of Lani Hall, who became lead singer of Brasil 66. A chance meeting with Brazilian band leader Sergio Mendes changed her life forever.

Alison and Shelley will be accompanied on piano by Brendan Fitzgerald.
