RCC Fringe Launches 'Riotous' 2019 Program

RCC Fringe today launches a huge fully-curated 2019 program of mind-expanding international arts including theatre, music, circus, comedy and kids' events running from Friday, February 15 to Sunday, March 17.

Former Adelaide Festival Artistic Director David Sefton, who shook things up at Adelaide's establishment festival with a program of iconoclasts, rabble rousers and forward-thinkers, has brought his programming talents to RCC Fringe.

That means RCC Fringe will host the likes of iconic Russian feminist punk rock performance art collective Pussy Riot, exuberant Canadian circus ravers Cirque Alfonse, the undisputed queen of the New York underground Penny Arcade, and wild anti-consumerist gospel shouters Rev Billy & the Stop Shopping Choir.

RCC Fringe Creative Director Stuart Duckworth is also back with a bang, bringing the likes of Riton & Kah-Lo, Aloe Blacc, Motez, Remi and many more to Dusk Till Dawn, a late-night playground of immersive music, art and light. Welcome back the RCC Boombox main stage, plus the Neon Forest and Disco Bus, as Dusk Till Dawn explodes with more than 120 artists and musicians over five weekends.

All this is happening at RCC Fringe's new home at the University of Adelaide. Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Rathjen said the partnership between the university and RCC Fringe was a new chapter that would bring the excitement and vitality of this major event to the University's campus for the very first time.

"For the University, that means opening up our campus to thousands of new visitors, placing us at the beating heart of a vibrant and thriving arts event," Professor Rathjen said.

Sefton and Duckworth said RCC Fringe's extensive and diverse program would spark the passion of a new generation of arts lovers and supporters.

"In changing times, it's time for a change," Sefton said. "We're proud to bring together something different in a whole new space for the festival season. RCC Fringe is a fully-curated international arts happening and a festival in its own right at the heart of the city in the best of all possible locations."

"We've combined our joint experience to make this happen," Duckworth said. "It's a 31-day music and arts festival and so much more. We feel we've created something magical and special and we invite you to come and share it."
