Patch Theatre Company present a strictly limited SA family season of six public performances of their much-loved production, Emily Loves to Bounce, at Norwood's Odeon Theatre on August 6, 13 & 20.

One of the most treasured works in Patch Theatre's impressive repertoire of highly visual theatre and perfect for kids aged four to eight - Emily Loves to Bounce sees carefree 'Henry' and practical 'Amy' step into a whimsical world full of boxes and balls in which they discover the power of their imaginations and how to play together in harmony.

Taking its inspiration from three books by Australian author Stephen Michael King, (Henry and Amy, Emily Loves to Bounce and Patricia), Patch Theatre's Emily Loves to Bounce uses live music, imaginative storytelling and a little 'theatre mystery' to express amazing ideas, in extraordinary ways! The 2016 SA family season introduces two new cast members to the line-up. James Smith - one of South Australia's most exciting young actors - steps into the shoes of 'Henry', with accomplished Mount Gambier actor Sarah Brokensha reprising her role as 'Amy'. Acclaimed Zephyr Quartet violinist Belinda Gehlert returns to the production, joining another newcomer in local cellist, Rachel Bruerville.

"We may have a couple of fresh faces on stage but everything that made Emily Loves to Bounce a hit with audiences in the first place will be back including the superb script - full of humour and so utterly relatable - the wonderful music, the colourful set where the balls and boxes take on a life of their own - and the magical lighting design by Geoff Cobham," says Patch Theatre's Artistic Director Naomi Edwards.

Importantly, Edwards says there's no need for kids, or those accompanying them to the show, to have read any of the books that inspired this production to fully enjoy and appreciate the performance.

"Not being a straight adaptation of the three books allows for this production to deliver a richer experience because kids can make their own connections with the characters and draw their own meaning from the stories," says Edwards. "At its heart Emily Loves to Bounce is about forming friendships and learning how to get along with each other - so it's best seen as a family or in a group of playmates. Our aim is to inspire imagination and conversation, long after you've left the theatre - whether that's a family chat over the dinner table or brothers, sisters or best mates having fun building their own castles together out of old cardboard boxes!"
