Douglas McNicol and Madeleine Stewart to Perform Concert at Kent Town Next Week

State Opera of SA star dramatic baritone and professional opera director, Douglas McNicol's career exemplars brilliance in verismo, comedy, tragedy, villainy and modern works, brings his outstanding talent to the popular community Concerts @ Kent Town at Wesley Church, corner Fullarton and Grenfell Street Kent Town at 2pm 18 October. Tickets at door $10 includes afternoon tea.

Mr McNicol will perform a mixture of ballads and folk songs with piano accompaniment by Graham Bell and Damien Mansfield.

Completing the bill on this outstanding concert will be award winning flautist Madeleine Stewart who will perform works by Mozart and Carl Reinecke.

Douglas McNicol
Highlights of Douglas McNicol's career include rave reviews for his beautifully sung and sinuously evil portrayal of Scarpia (Tosca), with several major opera companies in Australasia including Opera Australia, Opera Queensland, WA Opera and in New Zealand.

A multiple national award winner, in 2014 he received the Adelaide Critics Circle Best Individual Performer Award in live theatre for his revival of Iago (Otello) for State Opera of South Australia. Of further particular note were his Four Villains in the Tales of Hoffmann as well as his Jack Rance (La Fancuilla del West).

As a teacher, Douglas guides students to success including the winner of the Sydney MacDonald's Aria, year 11 and 12 SACE programs and is often called on for tuition by fellow professionals while as a guest artist interstate.

Madeleine Stewart
At 21 years old Madeleine Stewart is well on her way to a successful career in music. She is currently in her last year of the Bachelor of Music (Classical Performance) at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, studying under Associate Professor Elizabeth Koch AM.

Her recent achievements include being awarded the David Cubbin Medallion in 2016 and being recipient of the Victor Edgeloe Scholarship for Woodwind for excellence in performance at the University of Adelaide in both 2016 and 2017. Her recent solo performance highlights include attaining her LMusA last year and performing the Nielsen Flute Concerto with the Adelaide Youth Orchestra earlier this year.

With the goal of becoming a professional orchestral flautist, Madeleine has recently participated in the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra's training program Professional Pathways, which includes organising ASO Learning activities, rehearsal viewings, masterclasses, and the opportunity to meet visiting conductors and soloists. She has also performed in numerous ensembles, ranging from the multiple award-winning Marryatville High School Big Band 1 to the Elder Conservatorium Chorale.
