Review: CRAZY CHICKEN NERD: FRINGE 2018 at Biggies Basement At Biggies At Bertram Reviewed by Christine Pyman, Tuesday 6th March 2018.

Crazy Chicken Nerd is what you might call yourself if you are a nerd and you fall into the wonderful trap of having chickens. Jenny Birks "buok buok birks" her way through the story of how she became a substitute feathered mum, complete with her feathered friend, Beamo, the silkie bantam, free-ranging around trying to steal the show.

This show is extremely well written, with chicken facts and care information, interspersed with a great deal of humour. Although not the most polished performance, Birks's original material and sense of timing are impeccable, or should I spell that 'impeckable'.

Every single joke and story built to a crescendo, then unexpectedly hit with an extra punch after the main point. Her beak-sharp wit shines clearly through the feathers, as the storytelling ranged from Shakespearean language, the politicisation of breeds, from moults and egg laying, to stories of the chicken coop, via a sidetrack through the nerdy section of society.

If you've ever wanted to learn a great deal about chicken digestion, care and love, whilst laughing with glee at the wit, visit the coop, see Crazy Chicken Nerd, and maybe grab yourself a bonus tea shirt while you are there.
