Adapt Enterprises Presents: Lysistrata by Aristophanes at the Holden Street Theatres from May 15 until May 31. This production will be a part of the 2014 Festival Hellenika which celebrates Greek Culture!

First performed in 411 BCE, Lysistrata is arguably Aristophanes' most popular surviving comedy. It's an antiwar, feminist piece about the battle between the sexes, revealing that little has changed in about 3000 years. The Peloponnesian War is in full swing and the women of Greece are fed up with it. Under the direction of an Athenian woman named Lysistrata (which translates to 'army- dispander'), they decide to execute a sex strike in a bid to secure peace. What follows is a hilarious battle of the sexes, with Lysistrata battling misogyny, social norms, and the libidos of her sexually starved followers, as she attempts to bring peace to the divided cities of Greece.

Adapt's modern interpretation of this classic includes live music with a local South Australian cast and is directed by Ross Vosvotekas. The cast includes Michaela Wauchope, Justin J Stone, Olivia Fairweather, Petra Taylor, Anita Nedosyko, Tanya Gyzi, Mark Milton, Gia Pyrlis, Joseph Moore, Hannah Yates, Chris Roberts, Tom Fitzsimons, Sean Watters, Phi Theodoros, and Ross Vosvotekas.
