Casa Manana Holds Auditions For LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS 4/24

By:

Auditions for Casa Mañana's production of Little Shop of Horrors will be held Friday, April 24 beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the Rehearsal Studio at Casa Mañana Theatre. The engagement of Little Shop of Horrors is produced by Casa Mañana at the Bass Performance Hall for one-week-only, July 7 - 12, 2009.

The Rehearsal Studio at Casa Mañana Theatre, 3101 West Lancaster Avenue, Fort Worth, 76107 (in the heart of Fort Worth's Cultural District).
Details: Auditions for both Equity and non-Equity actors (by appointment only)
Open to ages 18 and up

Available Roles:

SEYMOUR Mid-twenties and perhaps balding a little. Our insecure, naive, put-upon, florist's clerk hero. Above all, he's a sweet and well-meaning little man. He is not a silly prat-falling nerd, and therefore should not be played as the hero of a Jerry Lewis film. High baritone to G.

AUDREY 20s-early 30s. The bleach-blonde, Billie-Dawn-like, secret love of his life. If you took Judy Holliday, Carol Channing, Marilyn Monroe, and Goldie Hawn, removed their education and feelings of self-worth, dressed them in spike heels and a low-cut black dress, and then shook them up in a test-tube to extract what's sweetest and most vulnerable-that'd be Audrey. Belt to C#.

MR. MUSHNIK 50s-60s. Their boss. A failure of an East Side florist. His accent, if he has one, is more that of middle class New York than of Eastern Europe. He seldom smiles but he often sweats. Bass-baritone, low G to high E.

ORIN AND OTHERS 30s. A tall, dark, handsome dentist with a black leather jacket and sadistic tendencies. He is not, however, a leftover from the movie version of Grease. Think instead of an egotistical pretty-boy all got up like a greaser but thinking like an insurance salesman and talking like a radio announcer. (The actor who plays him also plays A Voice not unlike God's, Wino #2, Customer, Radio Announcer, Mr. Bernstein, Mrs. Luce, Skip Snip, and Patrick Martin). Baritone strong low F to high E.

CRYSTAL, RONNETTE and CHIFFON 20s. Three African-American female street urchins who function as participants in the action and a Greek Chorus outside of it. They're young, hip, smart, and the only people in the whole cast who really know what's going on. In their "Greek Chorus" capacity, they occasionally sing to the audience directly. And when they do, it's often with a "secret-smile" that says: "we know something you don't know". Vocally, they are Motown sixties girl-group inspired (look at their names, obviously their names come from the girl-groups of the 60s), they sing in 3 part tight harmonies. Top vocal can be any role but basically needs a high G [mix/belt][and there is one popped high A] the remaining two girls are fairly mid-rangy. Vocal 2 is to a belted E.

Please bring a current picture with resume stapled to the back. Prepare a brief song in the style of contemporary pop musical theatre. You must provide sheet music in your key. An accompanist will be provided.
