London's 'Drowsy Chaperone' to Close on August 4

The London production of The Drowsy Chaperone, which opened at the Novello Theatre on May 14th, will have its final performance on Saturday, August 4th 2007, following a decision made by the producers.

"We are incredibly proud of The Drowsy Chaperone, which we have seen grow from a 30 minute vignette into a multi award-winning Broadway musical.  London ticket sales for our show have been slower than needed to sustain a longer run at the Novello.  Whilst regrettably having made the decision to close the show we are pleased to have brought this wonderfully original new musical to the West End with a first class Company who have brought to life a production we are incredibly proud of," stated producer Kevin McCollum.

After its world premiere in Toronto and performances in Los Angeles, The Drowsy Chaperone opened at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway in 2006.  As well as enjoying a continued Broadway run, a North American tour of the show will begin in Toronto in September and International Companies are being prepared for Japan and Australia.  

Tony Award-winning creator Bob Martin reprises his role as "Man in Chair" opposite internationally acclaimed actress Elaine Paige in the title role. The West End company also features Summer Strallen as "Janet Van De Graaff," Anne Rogers as "Mrs. Tottendale,"  Sean Kingsley as "George," Nick Holder as "Feldzeig," Joseph Alessi as Aldolpho," Nickolas Grace as "Underling," Selina Chilton as "Kitty," Enyonam Gbesmete as "Trix," John Partridge as "Robert Martin," Adam Stafford as "Gangster #1," Cameron Jack as "Gangster #2" and  Nina French, Mark Goldthorp, Paul Iveson, Sherrie Pennington; Christopher Bennett, Vivienne Carlyle, Mark Dickinson and Lincoln Stone.

The Drowsy Chaperone is directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, with music by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar.  Set designs are by David Gallo, costume designs are by Gregg Barnes, lighting is by Ken Billington and Brian Monahan, with sound design by Acme Sound Partners, orchestrations by Larry Blank and dance and incidental music arrangements by Glen Kelly.  The Drowsy Chaperone is produced in the West End by Kevin McCollum, Roy Miller, Bob Boyett, Stephanie McClelland, Barbara Freitag and Jill Furman.
