San Francisco State University's College of Creative Arts proudly presents Floyd Collins, December 7 through 17 at the Studio Theatre.

Floyd Collins features music and lyrics by Tony Award-winning composer, Adam Guettel and a book by Tina Landau. The production is directed by Barbara Damashek (Tony-nominated composer/lyricist, director) with musical direction by BranDon Adams.

"Based on true events, the critically acclaimed musical Floyd Collins follows a young caver who sought fortune for his family in the twisting bowels of rural Kentucky, and instead unearthed his own haunting legacy. On January 30, 1925, Floyd Collins set out to find an alternate opening to his family's struggling tourist attraction. As he squirmed through a tight passageway, a rock fell and pinned him into place 150 feet underground. Rescue attempts soon enticed an estimated 20,000 onlookers from all over America. As jugglers, medicine men, preachers and movie crews scrambled to get it all on film, Collins was all but forgotten as above him swirled the first great media circus of the modern era. With a haunting bluegrass-inspired score, Floyd Collins represents the best of a new generation of American musical theatre. The play secured the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical, and the 1995-1996 OBIE Award for its score."

Floyd Collins will be performed in the Studio Theatre located in the Creative Arts Building on SFSU campus, 1600 Holloway Ave. at 19th Ave.
