The world premiere of this contemporary thriller comes to The King's Head this July, directed by Jennifer Davis as part of the Trainee Resident Director Scheme.

"You should be careful, Mark. There are some really dangerous people out there."

It's Halloween, but Mark's not going out. While his mum buries herself in work, he's staying in, playing Xbox, and talking to Ghost. He doesn't know his real name. He likes that it's anonymous. It feels like they can be honest with each other. But Ghost knows more than he should and he really, really wants to meet...

A Haunting is a dark contemporary horror story about the internet, intrusion, and what we try to censor of our own past.

Nathan Lucky Wood, whose plays have been performed at The Roundhouse, The Bush, The Arcola, and the Southwark Playhouse, gives us an insight into the play: "As a sexually confused teenager, you have feelings and desires you don't fully understand and aren't sure you can express publicly. The internet can feel like a safe space to explore them anonymously. At the same time, you're aware of the well-publicised dangers of the online world. A Haunting explores adolescence, the internet and the fears we have around it."

Jennifer Davis is a director and producer, and has recently graduated from the King's Head Theatre Directing Programme. She has directed for a number of new writing festivals (including nights at the Birmingham REP, New Wimbledon Studio, LOST Theatre and Old Joint Stock Theatre). Jennifer was a Director on the Birmingham Repertory Theatre's artist development programme: Foundry (2014 - 2015). Previously, she has assisted Adam Spreadbury-Maher (King's Head Theatre), Marina Caldarone (Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts) and Bob Eaton (Belgrade Theatre.) In 2014, Jennifer founded and produced Shoot Festival, a new platform for early career artists making work in Coventry.

The King's Head's Trainee Resident Director Programme takes on four early-career directors to study under and work alongside artistic director, Adam Spreadbury-Maher. This unique opportunity provides each year's cohort with a holistic grounding in all aspects of theatre production, as well as learning from world-class directors and practitioners in and outside the rehearsal room. The programme won the Queen's Jubilee Award in 2002 in recognition of its unique value, and this year's trainees feel this stronger than ever. As the final showcase for their year of study and practical work, King's Head Theatre will produce four new pieces of writing, directed by the Trainee Resident Directors, in the upcoming Festival 46.

Please join The King's Head for this essential new play which explores the concept of anonymity, desire and intrusion in the online world.
