Photos: First Look at New Line Theatre's URINETOWN
by Marissa Tomeo - Jun 4, 2022

Set in 2027, Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis' URINETOWN is an hilariously subversive fable of greed, corruption, love, revolution, and urination, in a time when water is worth its weight in gold and there's no such thing as a free pee. Set in a near-future dystopian Gotham, a severe 20-year drought has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens are forced to use public 'amenities' now, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. In this nightmare world, the punishment for an unauthorized pee is a trip to the dreaded Urinetown. But from the ruins of Democracy and courtesy flushes, there rises an unlikely hero who decides he's held it long enough, and he launches a People's Revolution to lead them all to urinary freedom!

BWW Review: FINDING THE LINE ~ A SKATEBOARDING FUSED WITH JAZZ EXTRAVAGANZA at The Ford Theatre
by Valerie-Jean Miller - Oct 9, 2018

Skateboarding has been around a long time. When I was a teenager, living in Miami, besides attending school, tons of dance and other training, I was a surfer, and, out of necessity (there aren't really many rideable waves on Miami Beach) also a skateboarder and skiff or skim boarder. It has evolved into an Olympic sport and grown into a a thriving industry. It is a young person's sport, although not limited to any age, as witnessed at the Ford Theatre on Saturday, September 29th, 2018. Blending and fusing free-form Jazz, with an assemblage of top-notch musicians, a prolific rapper with an inventive vocabulary, and an array of skateboarding hot-shots and seasoned professionals performing their expertise, it made for a stellar, high-energy, exciting evening in the outdoor theater with the lush, natural backdrop and surrounding landscape, part of L. A. County Parks, and the series Ignite @ The Ford.

BWW Review: Clevelanders Invade Canada for the Shaw Festival 2018
by Roy Berko - Aug 6, 2018

The Shaw Festival, located in Niagara-on-the Lake, is often like being in downtown Cleveland on game day. Lots of 216/440 residents migrate North for a day, days or a week to visit 'the most beautiful little city in Canada,' as Niagara-on-the Lake is often called. They purchase peaches, cherries, and nectarines, tour the wine country and attend plays at The Shaw. It also doesn't hurt that the present exchange rate is $ .77 American for the Canadian dollar. (For the non- mathematical-Americans get a little over 20-cents back for every dollar they spend. Use credit cards to get the highest exchange rate.)
