EDWARD ALBEE’S THE GOAT OR, WHO IS SYLVIA? (NOTES TOWARD A DEFINITION OF TRAGEDY) is the latest co-pro between State Theatre Company South Australia and Sydney Theatre Company. 

Nottage's Pulitzer Prize winning script, 'Sweat', is searing in its portrayal of the human tragedy arising from capitalism unleashed.

There are plays that win a multitude of awards back in the day and become the 'must see' event for the mainstream. It becomes the talk of the town and if you are lucky enough to get to see it, you are one of the fortunate and can proclaim bragging rights. 'Proof' by David Auburn is one those plays that lives up to the hype and eighteen years later, still is riveting and thought-provoking.

It has often been said that the work-a-day world is made up of blood, sweat and tears. Perhaps that is most true for blue collar workers who find themselves laboring with their hands, especially in factories where those on the line are required to stand for hours on end doing repetitive work with little hope of any real recognition or promotion into management. Such is the case of the characters in Center Theatre Group's production of SWEAT, the 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Lynn Nottage, now at the Mark Taper Forum through October 7, 2018.

Gloucester Stage Company continues its 38th season of professional theater on Cape Ann with N. Richard Nash's moving American classic The Rainmaker from July 14 through August 5 at 267 East Main Street, Gloucester, MA. Set in the time of a paralyzing drought in Depression-era America, The Rainmaker tells the story of a pivotal hot summer day in the life of spinsterish Lizzie Curry, whose father and two brothers are worried as much about her marriage prospects as they are about their dying cattle. Enter Starbuck, the consummate con man, who promises to solve all their problems, for a fee. Directed by Gloucester Stage Artistic Director Robert Walsh, The Rainmaker cast features Brian Homer as Starbuck; Jessica Bates as Lizzie Curry; David DeBeck as H.C. Curry, the patriarch of the Curry family; Joe Short and Sean McCoy as the Curry brothers; Dave Rich as File and longtime Gordon College Professor of Theater Arts Norm Jones as Sheriff Thomas. N. Richard Nash's most celebrated play, The Rainmaker, appeared in all three mediums; on Broadway in 1954, as a motion picture starring Katharine Hepburn in 1956, and as a television production in 1982. A musical version of The Rainmaker, entitled 110 Degrees in the Shade, debuted on Broadway in 1963.

This past Sunday, December 11th, Tony Roberts, legendary actor from Annie Hall, starred as Scrooge, in a performance of A Christmas Carol, to benefit The Nyack Center.  The rest of the cast of neighbors performing for neighbors included: Teddy Bass, Tiffany Card, Noah Morley, Tom Dudzick, Kevin Pariseau, Sean Fleming, Max Reinhardsen, Andrew Greenway, Elizabeth Scotson, Jan Hilliard, Eliza Simpson, Peter Kramer, Steve Taylor, Lorena Mann, Jen White and was narrated by Barry Carl. Live music, and underscoring, was provided by Martha Mooke (viola) and John Forster (keyboards)  Garth Kravits provided live Foley sound effects and Elliott Forrest (WNYC) directed the performance. A Christmas Carol, an audio play, is written by Arthur Yorinks, inspired by the Charles Dickens classic and was performed for the 21st Annual Music and Readings in a Holiday Spirit. 

A minimalist production with a terrific performance.

TO MASTER THE ART, by William Brown and Doug Frew, enters its final two weeks at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E. Chestnut). The six week engagement will end Oct. 20, 2013.
