Everyone knows Hugh Hefner, but the man at Hefner's side for all those ground-breaking Playboy years was Victor Lownes, who passed away January 11, 2017. A Celebration of this extraordinary man's life was organized by The Mabel Mercer Foundation and Victor's wife Marilyn Cole Lownes. It was quite fitting, since Victor Lownes and Hugh Hefner bonded at the beginning of Playboy Magazine because of their love of the cabaret artist Mabel Mercer.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present the onstage collaboration of award-winning British cabaret singer Barb Jungr and Grammy and two-time Emmy-winning composer/arranger/musical director John McDaniel, in a brand new show. "That's Life," a one-night-only event, took place at Birdland on Monday, November 28.

During the West Coast premiere of UNDERNEATH by Olivier Award winner Pat Kinevane, be prepared to be called upon and repeatedly referred to during the show if you challenge the audience's attention by unwrapping candy during his performance, drop something on the floor, or just happen to be seated in the front row. That's because Kinevane wants you to pay attention to the play's theme, that "you can never know what might be around the next corner so go out and LIVE your life," he begs of us. With his otherworldly appearance, completely covered in black clothing and face paint highlighted with gold, there is no way you won't pay attention to his mesmerizing performance on a darkened set highlighted with pieces of gold lame which he often uses to reflect light onto the audience.

WHEN is love real and does it really last? That's the core theme of Honour, the latest offering from the Old Mill Theatre. Written by Joanna Murray-Smith and directed by Dale James, Honour follows a couple's exhausting and confronting - yet also tender and poignant - journey through life and love.

Directed by John Hall and based in part on Lynde's life and 1976 touring show, OH MY GOODNESS…IT'S PAUL LYNDE is produced with the full approval and cooperation of the estate of Paul Lynde, starring Michael Airingon who channels the late entertainer both in appearance, voice and attitude to a tee. The show traces Lynde's Life from his humble beginnings to his rise to stardom as one of America's funniest and biggest stars on television in the 70's, featuring voice-overs by the Master of the Hollywood Squares himself, Peter Marshall.

Continuing in a tradition of storytelling and music, Hershey Felder presents the World Premiere of Chris Lemmon in JACK LEMMON RETURNS, a new play with music. The production opened last night, Monday, May 12 at 7 p.m. at The Royal George Theatre, 1641 North Halsted Street. The production is written and directed by Hershey Felder and based on the true story of the legendary Jack Lemmon (Mister Roberts, Some Like it Hot, Days of Wine and Roses, The Odd Couple) and his relationship with his son, actor and musician Chris Lemmon (Duet, That's Life, Lena's Holiday, etc.).

What is it like to live much of your life perceiving that you have been born in the wrong body and then going through the process to correct this mistake of birth? That's the major issue exposed by Christine Howey in her one-woman, self-acted and self-written play, EXACT CHANGE, now on stage at Cleveland Public Theatre.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Broadway legend Elaine Stritch left New York City for good in May, after 71 years here, to relocate to her home state of Michigan. Now in a recent interview with Fairweather Magazine, the 88-year old opened up about her new life outside of the Big Apple. Stritch told Fairweather: 'I have a natural input fear of myself that goes in front of me. It's almost like someone says every time I walk into the room, 'Ladies and gentlemen…Elaine Stritch. There's something that says get out of my way, it's going to be my turn, because you need the love of the audience. My assistant/friend, Marge, says you can't live without an audience. That's why I'm questionable about this move. I don't know if it is going to work or not.'

The 2012 Summer Season kicks off with the fiery fun musical DAS BARBECÜ in the Keating Theatre, June 13 through July 15. DAS BARBECÜ, with book and lyrics by Jim Luigs and music by Scott Warrender, is loosely based on Wagner's epic Ring Cycle opera. Add in some modern day Texas twang, big hair, and big hats, and you've got a lightning-paced musical that's fun for opera buffs and regular joes alike. CHEKHOV'S LIFE IN THE COUNTRY will play Chicago's Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave., November 7 through December 21, 2008.
