Barrington Stage Company Founding Artistic Director Julianne Boyd's new production of Faith Healer by the great Irish playwright, Brian Friel (Dancing at Lughnasa, Translations) opened last night, Saturday, August 5. The production will play through Sunday, August 27 on the St. Germain Stage at the Blatt Center for Performing Arts. Check out photos from the production here!

If there’s a musical that has captured the heart of even the most reluctant theatre-goer, it has to be The  Sound of Music.

Playhouse on the Square, in partnership with An Anonymous Company and super sponsor Dr. Thomas Ratliff, present the theatre classic originally produced in the New Apollo Theatre and the Century Theatre in 1979, running for 382 performances.

In 10th Grade, I was in the chorus of a production of Oklahoma! in the auditorium of my synagogue and it was the best theatrical experience I've ever had. I remember getting home from the closing night cast party and crying myself to sleep. I could cry now putting on the movie or listening to 'The Farmer and the Cowman,' or maybe most of all, if I sing a little bit of the introduction to the title song.

Following their innovative production of TITUS: A Visual-Physical Adaptation of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus, New York Deaf Theatre (NYDT) celebrates their 38th season with an accessible production of MAPLE AND VINE by Pulitzer Prize finalist Jordan Harrison. The production marks the New York theater directing debut of award-winning Deaf film director Jules Dameron. Previews begin May 11 at the Flea Theater with a gala performance on May 12 and an official press opening on Thursday, May 17 at 7:00pm. 

Stephen Sondheim, who wrote the music and lyrics for 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,' which is now in production at Blank Canvas, is noted as a brilliant lyricist. Interestingly, that is not the way he sees himself. He is well-trained as a musical composer, having, from a young age, been the prodigy of Oscar Hammerstein II. Yes, the composer of such mega hits as 'Oklahoma,' 'South Pacific' and 'Sound of Music.'

ENSEMBLE THEATRE COMPANY is thrilled to announce the third show of its 2017-2018 Season, the 2014-2015 Outer Critics Circle & Drama Desk award nominee for Best Play, THE CITY OF CONVERSATION, written by Anthony Giardina and directed by Cameron Watson. Meredith Baxter and Sharon Lawrence star in this deeply moving and thought-provoking story about how the political divide tears apart an American family. THE CITY OF CONVERSATION begins previews on Thursday, February 8, opens on Saturday, February 10, and runs through Sunday, February 25, 2018 at The New Vic, 33 W. Victoria Street in Santa Barbara.

When the Cleveland Ballet left this area for San Jose, California, in 2000, it is rumored that the organization was over one-million dollars in debt. Lots of fingers were pointed as to why the deficit existed, but one thing is for sure, there will always be, it the minds of those who saw it, one lasting legacy of Dennis Nahat and his reign as the company's Artistic Director. From its 1979 debut, when it sold out every night of its two-week run, until its escape to the west coast, Nahat's THE NUTCRACKER reigned supreme.

This morning, BWW reported the sad news that Florence Henderson has passed away at the age of 82. Best known for her work on The Brady Bunch, Henderson was also a veteran of the stage. She made her Broadway debut at the age of 18 and played Laurey in the 1953 revival of Oklahoma! at City Center as well as the title role of Fanny at the Majestic Theatre in 1954. She also played Maria on the 1st National Tour of The Sound of Music, Anna in The King and I in Los Angeles in 1965, as well as Nellie Forbush in the 1967 Lincoln Centre production of South Pacific.

It's official! Barbra Streisand is the voice of a lifetime, OUR lifetime. Legendary singer Barbra Streisand has made music history yet again- this time for having ten of her albums reach #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Her latest album 'Partners,' was just released on September 16th from Columbia Records, and sold over 196,000+ copies in its first week. This makes Streisand the female artist with the most #1 albums and the first artist with #1's in each of the past six decades. It's no wonder she remains Broadway's greatest export.

Two years ago, The New Ohio Theatre and IRT Theater (new neighbors in the historic Archive Building on Christopher Street) kicked-off their exciting new developing and presenting initiative: the Archive Residency. The Archive Residency offers select independent theatre companies a two-year commitment of space, artistic support, and institutional continuity for the development and presentation of a new work. The festival, produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company for London 2012, will showcase the best of the UK and international creative talents, exploring the contemporary relevance of Shakespeare. Masterworks Broadway will release the complete New Broadway Cast Recording of Evita, the first complete English language stage recording of the show since the original 1979 Broadway cast album. The two-CD set, produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Nigel Wright, with Tim Rice as Executive Producer, is set for release June 26, 2012. The Knot of the Heart is designed by Peter McKintosh with lighting by Tim Mitchell and sound and music by Dan Jones.
