The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director), has announced full casting for a staged concert production - similar in style to their acclaimed Musicals in Mufti Series - of the 1966 musical Man with a Load of Mischief, with music by John Clifton, lyrics by Clifton and Ben Tarver, and book by Tarver. Directed by Jenn Thompson with music direction by Bryan L. Wade, the cast will feature P.J. Benjamin (Wicked), Naomi Brockwell, Stephen R. Buntrock (A Little Night Music), Rachel de Benedet (Catch Me If You Can), Nancy Johnston (Elf) and Robert Petkoff (Anything Goes). (more...)

My distant cousin Walter Elias 'Walt' Disney had a knack for turning everything into perfection, or at least practically perfect in every way. He took the mean, cranky nanny from P.L. Travers' book "Mary Poppins" and turned her into a saint. He excised two of the four Banks children, allowing the cutest ones to remain in the story. Travers' nanny couldn't dance on rooftops, didn't have adventures with Bert, didn't win at the horse races and couldn't sing. Travers was Australian; they take pride in being able to endure aggressive crocodiles, harsh deserts and appalling alloparenting. For those of us in the northern hemisphere who prefer our protagonists to be a bit on the spoonful of sugar side, Disney's Mary Poppins is just the ticket. (more...)

Tickets are $30 and can be reserved by calling 212-362-2590 or visiting www.triadnyc.com. The TRIAD THEATER is located at 158 West 72nd Street, just east of Broadway. The first funny feminist musical revue for men and women, The Housewives' Cantata uses a cabaret style ? la 'Jacques Brel...' to tell the story of three women, one of whom goes from housewife to becoming the first woman President of the United States. Songs featured in the revue include 'What is a woman?,' 'Dirty dish rag,' 'Guinevere among the grapefruit peels,' 'Adultery waltz' and 'Divorce lament.' The Off-Broadway production produced by Cheryl Crawford was praised as 'A sprightly songfest' by The New York Times.
