Ridgefield Playhouse to Host GREAT GATSBY Film Event, 11/23Ridgefield Playhouse to Host GREAT GATSBY Film Event, 11/23
by BWW News Desk - Sep 9, 2014

“In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars.” So wrote the great American novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald in one of the finest works of fiction by any of this country's great writers. The story of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when The New York Times noted “gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession”, is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s and a true classic of twentieth-century American literature. The Great Gatsby, which depicts the dark side of the American dream, a world of gangsters, wild parties and reckless people who had a way of destroying people's lives, was the perfect story for the silver screen. by Justin J Sacramone - Aug 24, 2014

As schools are opening their doors and welcoming students back, class at the Mad Cow Theatre Company is also back in session with a production of Alan Bennett's 2005 Tony Winning Play, THE HISTORY BOYS. My review on the production, running through September 7th, will be up early next week. In the meantime, I was able to interview some of the cast members. Instead of your basic interview with straightforward questions, I kept with the spirit of Bennett's scholastic play by passing out the blue books with three open-ended questions about some of the themes from the play. Although these answers will not be graded, I am sure if Irwin took a glance at them he would not be regarding them as "abysmally dull". (more...)
