San Francisco's cutting-edge Cutting Ball Theater proudly announces the lineup for its 16th season. The main stage season opens in November with the World Premiere of SUPERHEROES, written and directed by Sean San Jose (Campo Santo), followed by Sophocles' ANTIGONE in February, directed by Cutting Ball Associate Artistic Director Paige Rogers, in a new translation by Daniel Sullivan. Cutting Ball presents the World Premiere of resident playwright Andrew Saito's MT. MISERY in May. RISK IS THIS...THE CUTTING BALL NEW EXPERIMENTAL PLAYS FESTIVAL returns in May to round out the season with five new works, including two new plays from resident playwright Andrew Saito, in staged readings that push the boundaries of what theater can be. In addition to the main stage season, Cutting Ball Theater continues its Hidden Classics Reading Series with five new installments. The entire 2014-15 season will be staged in San Francisco at the Cutting Ball Theater in residence at EXIT on Taylor (277 Taylor Street at Ellis). Single tickets on sale August 1. This annual event serves as a showcase for the talents of the dancers in the CCBC Dance Company as well as for original and/or restaged works by CCBC dance faculty and guest artists. The concert will be performed at 11:15 a.m. today, May 1 and 8 p.m. May 2 and 3 in the College Community Center (COMM) Theatre at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard in Rosedale, Md. The third week of this summer's Mostly Mozart Festival, New York's acclaimed annual summer celebration of classical music, kicks off with a pair of all-Beethoven concerts by the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra leading one of the great works in the classical repertoire, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, August 12 and 13, at Avery Fisher Hall. Conducting this large-scale choral work is Gianandrea Noseda, featured at Mostly Mozart for a second consecutive summer following his debut last summer leading Rossini's Stabat mater. Singers for the performance include soprano Erika Grimaldi (U.S. debut), mezzo-sopranoAnna Maria Chiuri (Mostly Mozart debut), tenor Gregory Kunde, and bass Ildar Abdrazakov (Mostly Mozart debut). TheConcert Chorale of New York, directed by James Bagwell, will accompany the Festival Orchestra and soloists. The Festival Orchestra will also perform Beethoven's Overture to The Consecration of the House, Op. 124, to open the concerts. Additionally, the Amphion String Quartet will perform Barber's String Quartet, No. 11 in a pre-concert recital. (more...)

The Broadway Cast - led by Hannah Yelland and Tristan Sturrock - will appear in the internationally celebrated Kneehigh production of Noel Coward's Brief Encounter, which will have a 43-performance limited engagement at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts February 15 to March 23, 2014 (press opening February 19). Yelland and Sturrock are joined by fellow New York cast members Joe Alessi, Dorothy Atkinson, Damon Daunno, and Annette Laughlin. Opera Atelier's 2014-2015 season continues with the Berlioz version of Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice, a timeless love story based on the Greek myth. Opera Atelier most recently produced Gluck's opera in 2007, but this will mark the company's first exploration of Berlioz's 1859 version, in which the role of Orpheus is scored for a female contralto. Opera Atelier's co-artistic directors are proud that Tafelmusik has agreed to be part of this groundbreaking project, which marks the orchestra's furthest foray into 19th century orchestration. After a joyful comedic romp of The Chimney Sweep, what can you expect from Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride? Written in 1779, it was premiered by the Paris Opera and was Gluck's penultimate opera, performed more than four hundred times over the next fifty years. He wrote a revised version in 1781 in German, Iphigenie auf Tauris which was staged as a tragic singspiel at the National Theatre in Vienna but proved less popular than the original French version. The New Group has announced today complete casting for David Rabe's Sticks and Bones, the production that launches the company's 20th Anniversary Season. This production will feature Richard Chamberlain, Nadia Gan, Morocco Omari, Ben Schnetzer, Raviv Ullman, and as previously announced, Holly Hunter and Bill Pullman. Scott Elliott directs. Jane Moss, Ehrenkranz Artistic Director, today announced the 48th season of Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival, New York's acclaimed annual summer celebration of classical music, which runs from July 25-August 23, 2014. This year's Festival will feature more than 35 events across several venues including concerts, opera, dance, pre-concert recitals and lectures, late-night performances, contemporary music, and premieres of two commissioned works. The Festival kicks off with two free events: the world premiere of a new work by John Luther Adams, performed July 25 and 26 for free on Hearst Plaza, in a joint presentation with Lincoln Center Out of Doors, and continuing an annual tradition, the free preview concert by the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra at Avery Fisher Hall on July 26. Renee and Robert Belfer Music Director Louis Langree returns for his 12th season to conduct the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, which will perform a wide range of works anchored by the Festival's featured namesake. Mostly Mozart will also present world-renowned artists and returning Festival favorites, such as violinist Joshua Bell, Mark Morris Dance Group, Emerson String Quartet and Artists-in-Residence International Contemporary Ensemble, as well as 14 Festival debuts, including pianists Yuja Wang and Steven Osborne, and violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja.
