Cortland Repertory Theatre kicks off their 44th season at the Little York Pavilion in Preble with the theatre's premiere production of the hysterical new comedy Always a Bridesmaid, written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. Performances will run from June 3rd - 13th with evening performances at 7:30 PM.  Matinees are available on June 5th, 7th and 10th at 2:00 PM.  Tickets may be purchased by calling 800-427-6160 or at the CRT Box Office at 24 Port Watson Street in Cortland. The Old Globe will throw open its doors for a 2015 Summer Season featuring Shakespeare on stage and in film, continuing its celebration of the Globe's 80th Anniversary and Balboa Park's Centennial. All of San Diego is invited to join us for a series of free Monday night films relating to Shakespeare through the eras to celebrate both the Balboa Park Centennial and the theatre's 80th Anniversary. Howard Davies will direct Steve Waters' new play TEMPLE, a fictionalised account of the events that took place during the 2011 Occupy demonstration outside St Paul's Cathedral. Simon Russell Beale will return to the Donmar stage to play the Dean having previously starred in The Philanthropist, Twelfth Night and Uncle Vanya (for which he won the 2003 Olivier Award for Best Actor). The show starts tonight, May 21, with an official opening slated for May 27. TEMPLE runs through July 25, 2015. (more...)

The complete cast and creative team have been announced for The Old Globe production of William Shakespeare's delightful and romantic Twelfth Night. Rebecca Taichman, whose production of the time-traveling Time and the Conways fascinated audiences last April, is back to direct the first show of the 2015 Summer Shakespeare Festival. The Old Globe engagement will begin performances on June 21 and run through July 26, 2015, with opening night on Saturday, June 27 at 8:00 p.m., in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. (more...)

The Cortland Repertory Theatre Box Office is open for all ticket sales starting on Monday, May 18th.  The Box Office is located at 24 Port Watson Street in downtown Cortland, and is open Monday - Friday from 9:00 - 6:00 PM, and on Saturdays from noon - 6:00 PM.  Once performances begin at the Little York Pavilion, the Box Office at that location is open from 6:00 - 7:30 and 11:00 - 2:00 on performance evenings only. Thus, we are happy to present a new feature: The Nashville Theater Calendar, a comprehensive - maybe even exhaustive (lord knows we're exhausted from putting it together, gathering all the info from all over the interwebs!) - listing of theatrical openings for the 2015/16 season. Cortland Repertory Theatre's "CRT KIDS" program will present four performances of an original version of the classic tale "The Jungle Book".  Written and directed by local playwright Kim L. Hubbard, the show stars CRT's six performing interns of the 2015 summer season.  Funny, entertaining and timely, it is appropriate for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade, and carries an important message about friendship and ecology. Dorset Theatre Festival will stage Katie Forgette's Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily, a delightfully funny and exciting take on the famous detective story that weaves together threads of history and literature including the great Sherlock Holmes himself, his trusted friend Watson, the sinister Moriarty, the glamorous Lillie Langtry, and even Oscar Wilde. The production will be directed by Margarett Perry and will run from July 9th through the 25th. 'There is a reason that Sherlock is such a popular figure in literature as well as on stage and in film,' says Artistic Director Dina Janis. 'These mysteries are engaging throughout and always very satisfying. This piece in particular is so clever and entertaining.' The complete cast and creative team have been announced for the West Coast Premiere of Ken Ludwig's Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, a new work by one of America's great comic playwrights, familiar to millions for Lend Me a Tenor and Crazy for You. Baskerville is directed by Josh Rhodes, who previously choreographed the Globe's productions of Bright Star and Working, as well as Broadway's It Shoulda Been You, First Date, and Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella. The Old Globe engagement will begin performances on July 24, with opening night on Thursday, July 30 at 8:00 p.m., in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Although originally scheduled to run through August 23, Baskerville has been extended by popular demand through August 30, 2015! (more...)

Hey Broadway World! Its Noah again writing to you from the Goodspeed Opera House, where all of us in Guys and Dolls are starting to wrap up our time here. We have had an incredible run here and since starting performances in April, we will have done some 80-odd performances by the time we close on June 20. Having the chance to do a run this long has been amazing and the way the show has grown and deepened over the last two and a half months has been an absolute joy to witness. Everyone has been diving deeper into their characters day after day, scenes have been getting tighter, jokes have been getting funnier and we are all having the time of our lives. (more...)

The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre, the Frederick area's only year-round producing theatre, has announced a shake up to its summer schedule of shows.  The current production of the song and dance musical classic, West Side Story, which opened June 12th and was scheduled to run through the end of August, will now play its final performance on Saturday, August 8th.  The earlier closing makes way for the 10th Anniversary special presentation of A Rock-n-Roll Golden Oldies Mystery, which was the show that helped launch Way Off Broadway's interactive murder mystery series, Marquee Mysteries.  So popular was the show, that eleven more interactive mysteries have appeared at Way Off Broadway since, while even more are now produced outside of the theatre, including regularly on the Walkersville Southern Railroad. Dorset Theatre Festival plans to produce two exciting special events on the Playhouse stage this month. Brian Dykstra, an actor, playwright, and HBO Def Poet currently playing Moriarty in the DTF production of Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily will perform his one man show Brian Dykstra Selling Out, directed by Sherlock director Margarett Perry, on July 14th at 8:00 PM. On July 19th, Howard Fishman, a Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter, will make his Dorset debut after sold-out performances at the Vermont Arts Exchange and The Flynn. (more...)
