Josh Hamilton, who won rave reviews last season in Classic Stage Company's production of Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters, has joined the company's upcoming production of Chekhov's tragicomic masterpiece THE CHERRY ORCHARD in the role of Trofimov. Hamilton replaces Christian Carmago, who has withdrawn from the production due to a film role. THE CHERRY ORCHARD, which features John Turturro (Lopakhin), Dianne Wiest (Ranevskaya), , Ken Cheeseman (Pischick), Daniel Davis (Gaev), Alvin Epstein (Fiers), Slate Holmgren (Yasha), Roberta Maxwell (Charlotta), Juliet Rylance (Varya), Michael Urie (Yepikhodov), Elisabeth Waterston (Dunyasha) and Katherine Waterston (Anya), begins performances Wednesday, November 16 at CSC (136 East 13th Street). Directed by Andrei Belgrader, with a translation by John Christopher Jones, THE CHERRY ORCHARD will play a limited engagement through Friday, December 23. Lincoln Center Theater (under the direction of Andre Bishop, Artistic Director, and Bernard Gersten, Executive Producer) has announced that two-time Tony Award-winning actor Nathan Lane will head the cast of its upcoming production of THE NANCE, a new play by Douglas Carter Beane to be directed by Jack O'Brien. Lincoln Center Theater has announced two new upcoming productions: SHOWS FOR DAYS, a new play by Douglas Carter Beane, to be directed by Jerry Zaks; and the LCT3 production of PRELUDES, a new musical by Dave Malloy, to be directed by Rachel Chavkin. SHOWS FOR DAYS, marks the return of both playwright Douglas Carter Beane (The Nance) and director Jerry Zaks (The House of Blue Leaves, Anything Goes, Six Degrees of Separation) to Lincoln Center Theater, will begin previews Thursday, June 4 and open on Monday, June 29 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. PRELUDES, the first musical to be produced by LCT3 in the Claire Tow Theater, will run from Saturday, May 23 through Sunday, July 19. Opening night is Monday, June 15. (more...)

According to the New York Times, Broadway favorite Nathan Lane will be heading back to Broadway in Douglas Carter Beane's The Nance, a new play about a performer who played the role of the nance in burlesque shows in the early 20th century. The show has a book by Douglas Carter Beane adapted from the screenplay by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, with music by Arthur Schwartz and lyrics by Howard Dietz. The Band Wagon will be directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall with music direction by Todd Ellison. BroadwayWorld has confirmed that Laura Osnes is starring as Cinderella in the Mark Brokaw-helmed new Broadway-bound production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA. The musical is being produced by Robyn Goodman and Aged in Wood Productions. The reading began yesterday, January 12 and runs through the end of next week. A new production of Johann Strauss Jr.'s New Year's Eve classic, the comedic operetta Die Fledermaus, will open at the Met on December 31. Jeremy Sams, writer and creator of the Met's Baroque pastiche The Enchanted Island, makes his company debut as director with the new staging, which is set in Vienna at the turn of the 20th century. Sams also contributes new lyrics for Strauss's work, which will be performed entirely in English; Tony Award-nominated playwright Douglas Carter Beane makes his Met debut with new dialogue. Adam Fischer conducts a cast of rising opera stars and Broadway performers. A new production of Johann Strauss Jr.'s New Year's Eve classic, the comedic operetta Die Fledermaus, will open at the Met on December 31. Jeremy Sams, writer and creator of the Met's Baroque pasticheThe Enchanted Island, makes his company debut as director with the new staging, which is set in Vienna at the turn of the 20thcentury. Sams also contributes new lyrics for Strauss's work, which will be performed entirely in English; Tony Award-nominated playwright Douglas Carter Beane makes his Met debut with new dialogue. Adam Fischer conducts a cast of rising opera stars and Broadway performers.
