Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, today announced plans for its 2014/2015 Season. The upcoming season for the esteemed off-Broadway company begins in October with Rodgers & Hammerstein's ALLEGRO, directed by Tony Award-winner and CSC Associate Director John Doyle. ALLEGRO marks the second installment of CSC's Musical Theater Initiative, which launched last year with the company's hugely-successful production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Passion, directed by Doyle. Considered one of Richard Rodgers' and Oscar Hammerstein II's most personal and groundbreaking works, ALLEGRO was their third collaboration and first premiered on Broadway in 1947. (more...)

Boston Ballet Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen today announced the programming for the 2014-2015 season at the Boston Opera House. Boston Ballet's 51st season kicks off with the world premiere of Mikko Nissinen's Swan Lake, featuring glorious new sets and costumes by award winning designer Robert Perdziola. The season continues with the beloved new production of Nissinen's The Nutcracker and Val Caniparoli's romantic drama Lady of the Camellias. The spring season heats up with a burst of contemporary and neo-classical choreography from masters such as William Forsythe, Jerome Robbins, Helen Pickett, and Wayne McGregor, including the Company premieres of George Balanchine's Episodes and Hans van Manen's Black Cake. B Street Theatre Takes Student-Written Plays On the Road With FANTASY FESTIVAL XXVIII, Now thru 6/6

Last week the B Street Theatre School Tour production of Fantasy Festival XXVIII hit the road. This is the 28th year that elementary and middle school students throughout northern California have submitted original plays to B Street Theatre's annual playwriting contest for young people. Out of over 330 plays submitted this year, 6 have been selected for the tour. Two of the winning plays are from students who benefited from B Street Theatre's playwriting workshops sponsored by the Rotary International Foundations of Elk Grove and Rancho Cordova. The resulting show featuring all 6 winning plays will be performed at 144 assemblies in 110 schools in northern California between now and June 6, 2014, with a special public performance at the B Street Theatre on May 3 at 10:00am. With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Ward has book and lyrics by playwright Christopher Hampton and lyricist Don Black. Sharon Tate in Heaven is a one woman odyssey about model and actress Sharon Tate. Sharon did some television work and made six films, her last with Orson Welles, and was on her way to international stardom. She met director Roman Polanski in 1967 when she was hired to play the lead in his film The Fearless Vampire Killers, fell madly in love, and married him. Two years later while pregnant with his child, a boy, she and four others were savagely killed by members of the Charles Manson 'family' in August 1969 when Manson, a frustrated musician who wanted to get revenge on the Establishment that rejected him, and with paranoid delusions about a Helter Skelter race war he wanted to start, set it in motion. At the home Sharon and Roman rented on Cielo Drive in Benedict Canyon, Sharon passed before being able to say goodbye to her husband or loved ones. In this one woman show, written and performed by Jen Danby (The Blonde Bombshell Project: Marilyn Monroe), and inspired by research into books, pictures, interviews, films, virtual explorations, and more, Sharon Tate is interviewed in Heaven moments after her death to talk about her life, acting, and love, as a Valentine message to her husband. Richard and Sharon Jenkins to Receive Trinity Rep's 2014 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement; Ceremony Set for 6/9

Trinity Rep announced today that former artistic director and Academy-award nominated film, stage and TV actor Richard Jenkins and his wife Director/Choreographer Sharon Jenkins will be honored with the 2014 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. The theater also announced that nationally known dance educator and choreographer Mary Paula Hunter will receive the 2014 Charles Sullivan Award for Distinguished Service in the Arts. The 18th annual Pell Awards will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Trinity Rep with a reception to follow next door at the Providence Public Library. (more...)

Trinity Rep and WBRU announce their next Under35@TRC WBRU Night, Under35@Veronica Meadows, Thursday, April 17. Sponsored by WBRU, Under35@TRC is Trinity Rep's membership program for theater goers between 21 and 35. Membership is free and includes $25 tickets to any Trinity Rep performance and invitations to special events. Under35@Veronica Meadows includes a pre-show reception and viewing of the Dowling Theater's art gallery Cover to Cover: The Veronica Meadows Series Imagined, featuring the work of RISD illustration students. The event also provides an exclusive opportunity to meet the artists displayed in the exhibit. The reception begins at 6:00pm, gallery opens at 6:30, followed by a 7:30pm performance of Veronica Meadows. Tickets for the evening are $25 for Under35@TRC members and include the pre-show events and performance. Membership for Under35@TRC is free for those 21-35.
