JACK and Lukumi Arts Present Jadele McPherson

In this monumental week in Cuban and Cuban-American history, singer/performer Jadele McPherson creates a musical and theatrical bridge connecting the Cuban-American experience of today with black liberation figures, conjurers and spiritual leaders from two hundred years ago. Scenes of a young Cuban-American woman discovering her own rebellious ancestry are swallowed by music, dance and ritual featuring some of the great dance and music artists this city has to offer, many coming out of Cuban and Haitian traditions, including Osvaldo "Bembesito" Lora, Val Jeanty, Maxine Montilus, Yomaira Gonzalez, Caridad Paisan Garbey, Daniel Gil, Hansel Vaillant, Miguelo Valdes, Charles Hart and Diosvany Valladares. Themes of black resistance - both historical and contemporary - swell in this colorful and immersive spectacle.  (more...)

The Ruth Page Civic Ballet is proud to present its annual production of The Nutcracker, choreographed by Ruth Page andco-directed by Victor Alexander and Dolores Lipinski Long. This production is performed at Northeastern Illinois University, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue in Chicago, Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 4 at 1 and 5 p.m. Tickets for the performance are $25 for general admission, $20 for seniors and children under the age of 12 years and $10 for NEIU students, faculty and staff, one ticket per I.D. card. Also available is "Tea with Clara," a delightful tea party which patrons can enjoy with their favorite The Nutcracker characters from 3:15 - 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4. Tickets for "Tea with Clara" include admission to the tea party and either 1 or 5 p.m. performance, and are $85 for adults and $50 for children under the age of 12 years. YoungArts Announces Miami Art Week Events

During this year's Art Basel Miami Beach, the National YoungArts Foundation will host two visual arts exhibitions on their Miami campus, including the debut of a new body of work by José Parlá and an installation of rarely seen masterworks from the JPMorgan Chase Art Collection, as well as a booth at PULSE Miami Beach Contemporary Art Fair. Sony Classical to Release Simone Dinnerstein's MOZART IN HAVANA, 4/21

Sony Classical will release acclaimed pianist Simone Dinnerstein's new album, Mozart in Havana, on April 21. The new album, recorded in Cuba, may be her most ambitious to date and is a testament to music's ability to cross all cultural and language barriers. For it, Dinnerstein has collaborated with the virtuosic Havana Lyceum Orchestra to perform Mozart's Piano Concerto Nos. 21 and 23. In June, the Orchestra will also make their American debut in a series of concerts, the first time an orchestra of this size has traveled to the U.S. from Cuba since the revolution. (more...)

Miami New Drama at Colony Theatre Presents the American Premiere of TERROR

As part of its new permanent residency and management role at Colony Theatre on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach, Miami New Drama officially begins its 2017 season with the American premiere of Terror. The play will be directed by two-time Tony Award-winning Director Gregory Mosher, who is also the former Artistic Director of Lincoln Center in New York City. Under the Artistic Direction of Co-Founder Michel Hausmann, Miami New Drama brings the American adaptation and translation of this German play stateside. The original German version has been translated not only in script, but also to be consistent with American law.
