Theatre Communications Group Announces Latest Global Connections Grant Recipients

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, is pleased to announce the recipients of the latest round of Global Connections. Supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Global Connections encourages reciprocity and cultural exchange through two programs: ON the ROAD grants to foster new relationships with international colleagues; and IN the LAB grants to further pre-existing international collaborations. Now in its fifth year, the Global Connections program awarded a total of $70,000 to ten projects in this year's cycle, with over $700,000 awarded to date. (more...)

The Martha Graham Dance Company is pleased to announce its 2016–17 season. The Company's tour kicks off in August and includes performances in 12 cities across the U.S., a performance residency in Madrid, and a weeklong engagement in Cuba, where the Company will perform as part of the renowned Havana International Ballet Festival. Lincoln Center at the Movies: Great American Dance continues its collaboration with Fathom Events this summer with encore screenings of three of its inaugural dance presentations: Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ballet Hispanico, and San Francisco Ballet.  The three presentations will be shown in approximately 115 theaters nationwide.  Lincoln Center at the Movies was launched in fall of 2015 with Great American Dance, a series presenting performances by four of American's leading dance companies (New York City Ballet's George Balanchine's The Nutcracker was the fourth event in the series). The Washington Ballet (TWB) has added the Finale of George Balanchine's 1947 masterpiece Theme and Variations to its 40th Anniversary Celebration. The work is set to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and will provide a grand conclusion to a festive evening of performance and video excerpts that celebrate the 40 year history of The Washington Ballet dance company. The special one-night only production features works by Choo San Goh, Septime Webre as well as other favorites from TWB repertoire on September 30, 2016, 8PM at the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater. DiverseWorks is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition, Pablo Helguera: The Fable is to be Retold, from 7-9pm on Saturday, September 17th. Conceptual artist Pablo Helguera combines performance, visual art, community outreach and political activism to examine the social and cultural function of conventional teaching and memory systems. For his exhibition at DiverseWorks, Helguera uses fables to examine forms of visual and linguistic communication (or miscommunication) and understanding - particularly between children and adults and the empowered vs. the marginalized. New installation and video work, as well as a conceptual sculpture and a series of collages titled, Arlington Heights, are included in his first solo exhibition in Houston. (more...)
