The Seattle Opera Concludes 50th Anniversary Season with THE TALES OF HOFFMANN, Now thru 5/17

Seattle Opera concludes its 50th Anniversary season, as well as the 31-year tenure of General Director Speight Jenkins with The Tales of Hoffmann (Les contes d'Hoffmann). An all-star cast sings Jacques Offenbach's tuneful score, chronicling famous writer E.T.A. Hoffmann's misadventures in love. The wild stories of Hoffmann's failed romances come alive with fantastical elements: a beautiful robot, an evil optician, a stolen shadow, death by music, and a mysterious boy/girl muse. The Tales of Hoffmann was first produced jointly by Dallas, Cincinnati, Minnesota, and Arizona operas in 2005. This timeless, stylish, and imaginative production returns to Seattle Opera today, May 3, and runs through Today, May 17. (more...)

Throughout his career, Bennett has put his heart and time into supporting humanitarian concerns and joined Dr. Martin Luther King in the historic Selma March in 1965. His many charitable works include raising millions of dollars towards diabetes care and lending his artwork to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. In 2007, he was honored by the United Nations. Together with his wife, Susan, Bennett established the charitable organization, Exploring the Arts (ETA) to support arts education in public high schools. Bennett founded the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, a New York City public high school in his hometown of Astoria, Queens. ETA now supports 14 additional public high schools throughout New York City and just expanded to support three public arts high schools in Los Angeles. (more...)

The Washington National Opera Announces the Roster for the 13th Season of Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program

Washington National Opera (WNO) today announced the roster of emerging artists and renowned vocal coaches engaged for the 13th season of its Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program. Under the leadership of program director Michael Heaston, the Domingo- Cafritz Young Artist Program continues to increase its number of performances throughout the season and expand its training regimen to include mentorship by its returning Artist in Residence, the acclaimed American soprano Deborah Voigt. Additional faculty members include voice teachers Diana Soviero and William Stone; guest vocal coaches Be?ne?dicte Jourdois, Kathleen Kelly, and Danielle Orlando; career consultants Ken Benson and Matthew Epstein; and guest drama coaches Peter Kazaras and Alan Paul, among others. Teatro Vista begins their 2014 spring season with Arthur Miller's A View From the Bridge, playing at The Richard Christiansen Theater located within The Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave., April 15 - May 18. A View From the Bridge is directed by Teatro Vista Artistic Director Ricardo Gutierrez. Preview performances take place April 15 - 19 at 7:30 p.m. Opening/Press night is Tuesday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. Regular performances take place Thursdays - Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Preview performances are $20, regular run weeknight and matinee performances are $25 and Saturday night performances are $30.
