BWW Interviews: Legendary Performer Ben Vereen

In an industry as unpredictable as show business, it is truly a unique experience to meet one of the longtime greats - a performer who has done everything from Broadway to off-Broadway, film, television, children's specials and variety circuits, who been everywhere from London to Abu Dhabi and back over the course of a nearly 45 year career. It is particularly exciting to be sitting next to this same someone, who I personally grew up watching on T.V. in shows and specials like the unforgettable "Roots," and who created some of the most famous roles in show business that have been copied thousands of times by professionals, amateurs and students alike, including 'Judas Iscariot' in Jesus Christ Superstar (Tony nomination), and 'Leading Player' in Pippin (Tony Award). This is a man who has made almost as much of a a name for himself on stage as he has off as an activist for diabetes awareness and arts in education, a motivational speaker, acting coach, mentor, and lecturer in black history (amongst other things) throughout the country. Jerry Zaks Takes Over THE ADDAMS Family; Significant Changes Expected

The New York Times is reporting that Tony-winner Jerry Zaks has officially been brought in to take over and to supervise THE ADDAMS FAMILY. Zaks will be billed as the show's "Creative Consultant" with Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch still listed as directors and production designers, but it's been made clear that Jerry Zaks is the new man in charge.
He tells the Times that he is looking forward to "taking this original musical to the next level." As a result of taking this job, Zaks will no longer direct All About Me, which stars Dame Edna and Michael Feinstein.

Broadway favorite Christopher Sieber (Shrek, Spamalot) spent Saturday, December 12 mentoring the young talent of Broadway's future as they led the morning portion of a Shrek master class with Broadway Artists Alliance. Sieber (Lord Farquaad) answered questions and candidly spoke about his experiences with Shrek as well as other stage and screen credits to a group of eager and talented young performers ages 10 to 21. The group's morning Q & A was followed with a Song Interpretation class led by Sieber. The master class concluded with a Musical Theatre Audition Technique session by a representative from Tara Rubin casting. (more...)
