WICKED, the untold story of the Witches of Oz, features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Academy Award-winner for Pocahantas and The Prince of Egypt) and book by Winnie Holzman ("My So-called Life," "Once And Again" and "thirtysomething"), and is based on the best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire. With musical staging by Tony Award-winner Wayne Cilento (Aida, The Who's Tommy, Sweet Charity), WICKED is directed by Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello (Take Me Out, Assassins, Glengarry Glenn Ross).
The Madame Alexander Doll Company has announced the upcoming release of two new dolls in its WICKED collection, based on the hit Broadway musical. One is a Citizen of Oz doll; the other is a Citizen of the Emerald City. (more...)
According to Deadline.com, the much-speculated WICKED film is finally on the move. Producer Marc Platt, screenwriter Winnie Holzman, and composer Stephen Schwartz have recently been meeting with potential directors -- including JJ Abrams (2009's 'Star Trek,' 'Lost'), James Mangold ('Walk the Line'), Ryan Murphy ('Glee'), and Rob Marshall ('Chicago,' 'Nine'). Broadway star Julia Murney will be joining the Houston Symphony for a special concert series called "Broadway Rocks!" on September 3, 4, and 5. Three additional vocalists will join Ms. Murney and will be announced at a later date. They will be backed by the Gay Men's Chorus of Houston to perform show stopping numbers from the latest generation of Broadway musicals like Wicked, Mamma Mia, The Lion King, RENT, and more. A staged production of L. Frank Baum classic The Wizard of Oz is playing Bass Concert Hall this weekend. A near exact recreation of the film we all know and love - laced with bits and pieces of the book with some modern aspects tossed in - the show is a fun time for children, and a nice way to introduce them to live theater. Beginning performances Tuesday, January 12, KATIE ROSE CLARKE will assume the role of Glinda in the Broadway production of WICKED. Also beginning performances on January 12 is Jenny Fellner, who will play the role of Nessarose. They join a cast which includes Dee Roscioli as Elphaba, Tony Award-winner Rondi Reed as Madame Morrible, P.J. Benjamin as The Wizard, Kevin Kern as Fiyero, Alex Brightman as Boq and Timothy Britten Parker as Dr. Dillamond. Through January 10, Erin Mackey will perform the role of Glinda and Michelle Federer will perform the role of Nessarose.
