Emerging Artists Theatre, the company that produced last season's hit Penny Penniworth, presents the Off-Broadway premiere of The Sensational Josephine Baker, a rich, comedic, moving musical portrait of the unique iconic Jazz Age legend, Josephine Baker. Preview performances began Tuesday, September 7th, opening night will be Tuesday, September 14 and the play will run through Sunday, October 3rd at TADA Theatre, 15 West 28th Street, 2nd floor, between Broadway and 5th Avenue. Show times are: Tuesday and Friday at 7pm; Wednesday and Sunday at 2pm; and Saturday at 5pm and 9pm. Whoopi Goldberg will rejoin the cast of the hit musical comedy SISTER ACT in October to complete her run as Mother Superior. She will perform the role on the evening of Friday 22 October, at two shows on Saturday 23 October and at two shows on Monday 25 October. Whoopi's previous run, her West End debut, was a huge critical success and saw fans camping overnight at the box office and daily queues around the block at the London Palladium for tickets. During Whoopi's run Sister Act also broke the record for the highest weekly gross of any musical ever at the Palladium. She was unable to complete that run, which was to end on August 31, when she had to return to the USA due to a family emergency. (more...)

EW's Ausiello Files reports that Cheyenne Jackson will be returning to NBC's 30 Rock on the October 14th live episode. The FINIAN'S RAINBOW star first appeared on the hit comedy on November 14, 2009, and made a second appearance in the November 20, 2009 episode. The October 14 live episode will be aired live from NBC's studio 8H for both east and west coast audiences. No additional details about the upcoming October 14 live episode have been revealed. The performance-entitled The Power of Two after their 2009 album of the same name-will feature the duo performing pop songs, classic standards, and numbers from Broadway shows like Kiss Me Kate, City of Angels, and The King and I. Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) is thrilled to announce the 45 Houston area schools competing in the ninth annual Tommy Tune Awards. Developed by TUTS in 2002, the Tommy Tune Awards honor musical theatre excellence at the high school level, celebrating outstanding student achievement in 15 categories. During the 2010-2011 school year, a team of Houston-based theatre professionals will evaluate the participating high school productions and announce the winners at a Tony Awards-style ceremony to be held April 20, 2011 at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The event will feature spotlight numbers from the nominated shows, as well as award presentations to the performers, directors, choreographers, orchestras and designers, who have defined excellence throughout 2010 - 2011. The Best Leading Actor and Actress will go on to compete in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City this coming June. (more...)
