The producers of the new musical HANDS ON A HARDBODY announced today that Benjamin Millepied has withdrawn from the production due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts and that, going forward, Sergio Trujillo (Memphis, Jersey Boys) will assume musical staging responsibilities for the show. The production will play Dallas (Oct. 2 - 21), Seattle (Oct. 24 - Nov. 11), Salt Lake City (Nov. 13 - 18), Las Vegas (Nov.20 - 25), Tempe (Dec. 11 - 16) and Costa Mesa (Dec. 18 - 30). From 5 February 2013 Gavin Lee will join the cast of the hit West End production of Top Hat to play Jerry Travers, the role played in the original RKO motion picture by Fred Astaire. Top Hat is currently booking at the Aldwych Theatre until 28 September 2013 having recently released a further 180,000 new tickets for sale. Seventy seven years after its movie release, Matthew White's production arrived in the West End earlier this year having completed a 20 week sell-out UK tour. (more...)

HERO: A World-Premiere Comic Book Musical That's Ready For Its Grown-Ups

Opening this past Wednesday, the latest new work at the Marriott Theatre is "Hero," conceived and written by Aaron Thielen (the theater's Lead Artistic Director) and based somewhat on his childhood in Milwaukee and the neighborhood he grew up in. The show has music and lyrics by Michael Mahler, an actor, musical director, guitarist and keyboardist about town, who has written seven previous musicals and makes quite a mark with this one. The pair has been working on and workshopping the show since early 2009, and the work has paid off. It's a funny, engaging, likeable, tuneful and moving mid-sized musical. (more...)

BWW Interviews: Sergio Trujillo - Broadway's Quadruple Threat Talks JERSEY BOYS, 'NORMAL,' WHITE NOISE

Given the odds, for one to have been involved with a singular Broadway success would be impressive. To have been involved with two would solidify one's status as a true Broadway 'player.' How about 4, running at the same time? Only two artists have been able to boast such an accomplishment, the first being Susan Stroman, whose productions of Contact, The Producers, The Music Man, and Thou Shalt Not all ran simultaneously for a short time in 2001. Last season, Broadway's go-to choreographer, Sergio Trujillo, joined her company with his superfecta of Next to Normal, Jersey Boys, The Addams Family and Memphis. It appears that like Jersey Boys, Memphis, and The Addams Family, Trujillo is showing no signs of breaking his streak, or going anywhere, with new projects in the pipeline incoming. (more...)

Theatre Works records Terry Johnson's hit stage adaptation of The Graduate for radio. Also in the cast are Bruce Davison (Mr. Braddock), John Getz (Mr. Robinson), Lucy Punch (Elaine), Linda Purl (Mrs. Braddock) and Tom Virtue (multiple roles). John Rubinstein will direct five performances, December 8-12, at the Skirball Cultural Center. L.A.
