In a land not so far, far away, ShowKids Invitational Theatre (SKIT) brings SHREK THE MUSICAL from the swamp to the stage. Shrek is being presented today, April 26, at 7:30pm; Sunday, April 27, at 2:00pm; Friday, May 2, at 7:30pm; Saturday, May 3, at 2:00pm and 7:30pm; and Sunday, May 4, at 2:00pm. All six performances will take place in the Voorhees High School, Route 513, Glen Gardner, NJ.

Tonight, April 11, Theatre and Dance at Wayne rolls back the clock to the era when the Bonstelle Theatre became a part of Wayne State University, with the production of the 1950 classic, Guys & Dolls. Based on Damon Runyon's story and characters, the Tony Award-winning musical comedy features one of the greatest musical scores in the history of American theatre, and is considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy.

Wendy Whelan Postpones RESTLESS CREATURE U.S. Tour

Following hip surgery that took place just one week after the August 14, 2013 premiere of her Restless Creature, Wendy Whelan, in consultation with her doctors, has concluded that her body needs more time to heal and that she must postpone her spring 2014 (March 16 – April 11) inaugural U.S. tour of the work. Rescheduled dates will be announced at a later time. See below for a list of postponed engagements. The UK premiere, presented by The Royal Opera House, will take place at the Linbury Studio Theatre in London as scheduled (July 22–26).

SEATTLE, WA-Pacific Northwest Ballet's 2013-2014 season continues with the perfect Valentine and a happily-ever-after experience for all ages, Ronald Hynd's The Sleeping Beauty. From fairies that really fly to the Prince's wakening kiss and an imperial wedding celebration, each moment of The Sleeping Beauty faithfully portrays the beloved fairy tale with grand storytelling, Tchaikovsky's beloved score, magnificent sets and costumes, and over 30 leading roles. Long regarded as the ideal classical ballet, The Sleeping Beauty's fairytale world was crafted to mirror the splendor of the Imperial Czars, its first patrons. Although this production is as discernibly English as its choreographer, the ballet remains true to Marius Petipa's 1890 original and each act - from the evil fairy Carabosse's flying entrance in the Prologue to the Rose Adagio's spectacular balances to Act III's celebrated Bluebird pas de deux - offers rich opportunities for dancers to demonstrate technique and artistry, and take star-turns. Ultimately, however, the pivotal brilliance of Beauty rests with Princess Aurora; she must captivate as a teenager, inspire a Prince's love as a vision, and awaken a queen, all while mastering some of the most technically grueling choreography in classical ballet's cannon - a genuine mark of distinction for a great ballerina. The Sleeping Beauty runs for nine performances only, January 31 to February 9, 2014 at Seattle Center's Marion Oliver McCaw Hall, 321 Mercer Street. Center for Contemporary Opera to Pay Tribute to Hans Werner Henze with Performance of THE RUNAWAY SLAVE, 1/16-17

The Center for Contemporary Opera (CCO) is proud to pay tribute to composer Hans Werner Henze, who died in 2012 at the age of 86, with performances of his El Cimarron (The Runaway Slave), featuring baritone Eric McKeever in the title role. Not performed in New York since 1986, El Cimarron has music direction by Sara Jobin, and stage direction by Eugenia Arsenis, singled out as stage director by Miguel Barnet, author of the book upon which the opera is based. Confirmed artists performing expected and unexpected interpretations from Stoller's genre-spanning career in blues, R&B, rock 'n' roll and jazz include legendary vocal group The Coasters, along with artists Karen Akers, Mary Bridget Davies, Corky Hale, Maria Elena Infantino, Sally Kellerman, Bettye LaVette, Melissa Manchester, Billy Stritch, Tommy Tune and Steve Tyrell. Backed by Tyrell's band, the artists perform some of the greatest songs written by Stoller with his longtime lyricist partner Jerry Leiber and others. In Richie's Fantastic Five: Kurosawa, Mizoguchi, Ozu, Yanagimachi & Kore-eda, Japan Society's Film Program honors Richie's legacy, presenting five timeless classics and hard-to-see gems over five months in glorious 35mm presentations. Curated by Hirano, a former Japan Society Film Program Director, the series highlights five seminal Japanese directors, who first became known throughout the world through Richie's work. Co-presented with The Japan Foundation, the series launches with Akira Kurosawa's High and Low (October 18); continuing with Kenji Mizoguchi's The Life of Oharu(November 16); Yasujiro Ozu's Equinox Flower (December 12), screening on Ozu's birthday and the 50th anniversary of his death; Mitsuo Yanagimachi's Himatsuri (January 24), unavailable on DVD; and Hirokazu Kore-eda's After Life (February 19), marking the one-year anniversary of Richie's death.
