The Friend Center Announces 2008/09 Programming

The Friend Center at the The Jewish Community Center of San Francisco (JCCSF) today announced details of its comprehensive Performing Arts programming for 2008/09. The eclectic array of performances in intimate Kanbar Hall will include solo performances by luminaries such as Bebe Neuwirth, Phoebe Snow and Arlo Guthrie, and five fascinating thematic series: Abracadabra: an exploration of the conjuring arts and Jewish tradition; a salute to American icon Leonard Bernstein; an Italian Jewish film series; Let the Games Begin, a series of sports related programming; and Evolve, part of a city-wide celebration of Charles Darwin's 200th birthday
Martin Platt to Direct European Premiere of DOUBT in Vienna

Martin Platt, Co-director of the Perry Street Theatre Company, has been tapped to direct the European Premiere of John Patrick Shanley's Tony Award Winning Drama, DOUBT to begin performances at Vienna's English Theatre at January 30 - March 11, 2006.

Previews Begin for Irrationals, Off-Broadway

Shenango Productions presents a new musical, Irrationals, Off Broadway at The American Theatre of Actors, 314 West 54th Street. Previews begin this Saturday, November 6th and the Opening is Wednesday, November 10th at 8:00 pm. The music is by Edward Thomas with book & lyrics by Jon Marans. It is directed by Martin Platt, with choreography by Cjay Hardy-Philip. Cherie Rosen is the musical director. The set designer is Bill Clarke; costume designer Iracel Rivero; lighting designer: Jeff Nellis; and the sound designer is Jason Fitzgerald for the limited engagement.
Roger Rees Appointed Williamstown Theatre Festival Artistic Director

A year-long search has led to the appointment of Roger Rees as the new Artistic Director of the Williamstown Theatre Festival (WTF). Ira Lapidus, President of the Festival's Board of Trustees made the announcement. Rees, who will assume his post January 1, 2005, replaces Michael Ritchie, who is leaving the Festival to become Artistic Director of Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles.
