Caroline, or Change takes place in Louisiana in 1963, just before President Kennedy's assassination and during the Civil Rights movement. Caroline is the black maid of the Gellmans, a Southern family, made up of a father, his new wife and the man's young son, Noah. The son's birth mother has recently died, and the stepmother is trying to establish a relationship with the child, who already has a close connection with Caroline. The title has a double meaning, referring to the myriad social changes swirling around the family and a family argument surrounding the spare change perpetually found in the boy's pants pockets.

The Public Theater announced complete casting for the world premiere of Suzan-Lori Parks' THE BOOK OF GRACE, directed by James Macdonald. The complete cast will feature Amari Cheatom as Buddy, John Doman as Vet, and the previously announced Elizabeth Marvel as Grace. THE BOOK OF GRACE will begin previews on Tuesday, March 2 and run through Sunday, April 4 with an official press opening on Tuesday, March 16. Theater Latté Da today announced casting for Violet, the rarely-produced musical which it will present in the Dowling Studio at the Guthrie, February 26 - March 21, 2010. Under the direction of Theater Latté Da artistic director Peter Rothstein, the production features a score by Tony Award nominee Jeanine Tesori, the composer whose music brought Tony Kushner's book and lyrics for Caroline, or Change to life. Britta Ollmann - a childhood star of the Children's Theatre Company who originated title roles in Pippi Longstocking, Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse and Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz - will play the title role.
