The 28th Annual STAGE Benefit was held last weekend at the Saban Theatre Beverly Hills to benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles. Entitled 'Original Cast 3,' it featured performers doing songs from shows with which they are associated. The event raised more than $200,000 for APLA's work with clients living with HIV and AIDS in Los Angeles County. Javanna Productions and M.O.V.E. for Autism present "Grant's Safari," a multi-media dance performance Choreographed by NYU Sophomore Nicole Johnson, who also serves as Artistic Director for the performance. "Grant's Safari" is narrated by Ms. Johnson's younger brother Grant, who was diagnosed with Autism almost 10 years ago. The performance is staged as a benefit for Autism Speaks and Quality Services for the Autism Community (QSAC), leaders in the fields of Autism research and advocacy. Today we are completing our extensive three-part look at THE SOUND OF MUSIC at Carnegie Hall with an career-spanning chat with one of Broadway biggest rising stars, the amiable and accomplished Laura Osnes. Since her Broadway debut in GREASE - coming after the reality casting competition TV series, YOU'RE THE ONE THAT I WANT - in 2007, Osnes has found great success with lead roles in three more Broadway musicals, spelling for Kelli O'Hara in SOUTH PACIFIC at Lincoln Center as Nellie Forbush, as well as taking on the title role in Frank Wildhorn's BONNIE & CLYDE with Jeremy Jordan and playing Hope Harcourt in the Roundabout revival of ANYTHING GOES alongside Sutton Foster and Joel Grey. A Chorus Line, the ground-breaking 1970s musical about unsung Broadway dancers putting everything on the line at an audition to be in a show, opens the season June 15-24. Bye Bye Birdie, the jubilant 1960s rock 'n' roll inspired parody of what happens to a small Midwestern community when an Elvis-like musical star swings through town looking for one last kiss before entering the Army, runs July 13-22. My Fair Lady, the timeless 1950s Lerner and Loewe classic about an arrogant professor's transformation of a Cockney flower girl into an elegant, proper-speaking lady, takes the stage August 10-19. Laura Osnes stars as Suzy in the New York City Center Encores! production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Pipe Dream running through April 1. Pipe Dream is directed by Marc Bruni with music direction by Rob Berman and choreography by Kelli Barclay, and plays for seven performances at New York City Center, West 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues.
