In just two years since its premiere in the spring of 2011, BC Beat has created a family of 32 choreographers, each with a unique tie to Broadway and a dedication to developing theatrical work, including Stephen Hoggett (choreographer of Tony Award winning Once), Camille A. Tonight, April 12, 2013, The New York Pops continues its 30th season with an evening celebrating the 65th birthday of Stephen Schwartz and the 10th anniversary of his hit musical Wicked with The Wizard and I: The Musical Journey of Stephen Schwartz. Music Director and Conductor Steven Reineke will lead the orchestra as they perform highlights from some of the composer-lyricist's most beloved works. The concert features Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan (Newsies), Tony Award nominee Norm Lewis (The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess), Drama Desk Award nominee Julia Murney (The Wild Party), Tony Award nominee Jennifer Laura Thompson (Urinetown), and Judith Clurman's Essential Voices USA.

This effervescent musical romp will feature Ashley Kate Adams (Miss Dorothy Brown), Brenda Braxton (Muzzy Van Hossmere), Billy Bustamante (Bun Foo), Jeff Kready (Jimmy Smith), Burke Moses (Mr. Trevor Graydon), Lenora Nemetz (Mrs. Meers), James Seol (Ching Ho), Jessica Sheridan (Miss Flannery) and Laurie Veldheer (Millie Dillmount). Thoroughly Modern Millie will be directed by Paper Mill Playhouse Producing Artistic Director Mark S. Hoebee with choreography by Denis Jones. Thoroughly Modern Millie will run at the Millburn, New Jersey, theater from tonight, April 10 through May 5, 2013. The official press opening is Sunday, April 14, at 7:00pm.

Newsies, The Tony Award-winning hit Broadway musical, celebrates one year on Broadway March 29th at the Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street, New York City).

There are certain stories that when they are mentioned bring a sparkle to both the young and the young at heart. One of those, I believe, is the timeless P.L. Travers classic, Mary Poppins. Whether you are talking about the original book, the classic Disney movie or the new theatrical production, Mary Poppins has truly lived up to her reputation - "practically perfect in every way." Carrying the baton, or rather, the parrot-handled umbrella when the show returns to Atlanta is Maddy Trumble and I had the pleasure of chatting with her and learning about her experience with the show. Here's a hint, it can be summed up in one word - supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Michigan native Eric Gelb is not your typical teenager. His resume lists an impressive number of accomplishments including producing, writing, performing, marketing and designing. In 2011, Eric co-wrote and co-produced the high-school musical 'Project X' which toured across venues in his home state. He also worked with playwright Maggie Kennan-Bolger on her play 'Queering History' and interned for the 2012 Broadway for Obama campaign. Did we mention he's only 14 years old? Beginning at 5 p.m. tonight, three hours before the main GRAMMY Awards show, the pre-telecast Ceremony will announce awards in 70 additional categories, including musical theater. It will be hosted by David Alan Grier, who is nominated for a Grammy for his performance in The Gershwin's PORGY AND BESS on Broadway.

Newsies has just announced nationwaide auditions that start this weekend in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Accoridng to the casting notice the show is seeking: males, 16-22, of all ethnicities, who are strong and technically trained dancers who also tap and sing well. Acrobatics/tumbling a plus. Now, Disney Theatrical Productions has confirmed that Aladdin, a new musical based on the Academy Award winning animated film, will play its pre-Broadway engagement at Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre(formerly the Canon) November 13, 2013 to January 12, 2014 and will open at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre in 2014. The show will feature music by Alan Menken; lyrics by the late Howard Ashman, Tim Rice and Chad Beguelin with a book by Beguelin. Casey Nicholaw will direct and choreograph.

A total of 35 established and emerging writers, composers and lyricists will converge on the Goodspeed campus this month to participate in the first-ever Johnny Mercer Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing more than twenty new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.

It doesn't happen often, but, fair or not, there's always a little extra pressure put on a play when it comes to New York after having already won the Pulitzer Prize.  Quiara Alegría Hudes, a Pulitzer finalist for both Elliot, a Soldier's Fugue and her co-authorship of In The Heights, was awarded top honors last year for Water By The Spoonful, which was commissioned by Hartford Stage, where it premiered in 2011.  Shortly after, the recently-opened Off-Broadway mounting was placed on Second Stage's schedule.
