The Franklin Performing Arts Company (FPAC) presents the 2012 Whatever Theater Festival, running from today, July 31 to Saturday, August 4 at the Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) and Franklin Town Common. The 5th annual festival features productions of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance, Shakespeare's The Tempest and One Acts. All performances are free of charge, with donations to FPAC gratefully accepted. (more...)

Theatre fans between the ages of 11 and 21 are invited to discover their potential, meet like-minded friends and earn a grade 6 certificate in musical theatre from the prestigious Trinity Guildhall. Written by Caleb Porter and Abe Burrows, the story revolves around 'the lovely Pistache, who owns the only café that features the sexy and provocative Can-Can. She spars with Aristide Forestier, a self-righteous judge, determined to close all Parisian dance halls. The show features the provocativly delightful Can-Can, the high-energy and physically demanding music hall dance which is a hybrid of the Polka and The Quadrille. First danced in circa 1822, it was outlawed for a number of years as immoral and prohibited by the police! How times have changed!' (more...)

The Jeff Awards judges attended opening nights of 118 Equity productions offered by 55 producing organizations. The Public and Theater for a New Audience Announce the Wallace Shawn-André Gregory Project

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Patrick Willingham) and Theater for a New Audience (Founding Artistic Director Jeffrey Horowitz; Managing Director Dorothy Ryan and Chairman of the Board, Henry Christensen III) will present THE WALLACE SHAWN-ANDRÉ GREGORY PROJECT in 2013, a celebration of the remarkable 40-year collaboration between Wallace Shawn and Andre Gregory. The two plays, THE DESIGNATED MOURNER and GRASSES OF A THOUSAND COLORS, will offer a long overdue retrospective of Shawn's work as well as an opportunity for him to appear on the New York stage again under Gregory's direction. The Public Theater presented Shawn's first play in New York, Our Late Night, in 1975, directed by Gregory. (more...)
