BWW Reviews: A SKULL IN CONNEMARA Digs Up Dark Humor at CenterstageBWW Reviews: A SKULL IN CONNEMARA Digs Up Dark Humor at Centerstage
by Giordana Segneri - Feb 7, 2012

The far flung often breeds the bizarre, and Martin McDonagh's deliciously dark A Skull in Connemara capitalizes on its setting in the wild west of Ireland to weave a contemporary tale that's at once peculiar, touching and hilarious. Centerstage's offering brings together a remarkably even cast of four top-notch, talented actors, all making their debut at the theater and bringing to life the strange story of a motley crew who keep each other company in their misery. by Daniel Collins - Feb 21, 2012

Martin McDonagh's A Skull in Connemara reflects today's attention-span-shortened audience...Concise but clever, with laughing and bashing, a playful bit of a play...but not particularly demanding of its audience...unlike, say Eugene O'Neill's THE ICEMAN COMETH. Does 'SKULL' represent a trend in modern theater? Are the days of 4-hour plays over? (more...)

by BWW News Desk - Apr 12, 2013

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) concludes its 29th Season with what promises to be a hilariously comic, aggressively dark and highly entertaining production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane by Martin McDonagh. The Irish-born playwright's multi-award-winning play, called 'Riveting...and cruelly amusing' by The New Yorker, focuses on the suffocating relationship between forty-year-old spinster Maureen (Jeanine Kane) and her aging and increasingly needy mother, Mag (Wendy Overly)--two seriously flawed characters locked in mutual loathing.
