From France's Diabolus in Musica and Antoine Guerber comes this fascinating new release featuring the emotional and rarely-heard music by the contemporaries (or near contemporaries) of the Master of Tours, Johannes Ockeghem. The composer's death at a ripe old age in 1497 greatly affected the brilliant generation that was in the process of making the transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, leading to the creation of some deeply moving music. LACO commissioned the work for LACO's Assistant Concertmaster/soloist Tereza Stanislav, acclaimed for her "sure technique and musical intelligence" (Calgary Herald), on the occasion of her 10th anniversary with the Orchestra. Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, today announced complete casting for the company's upcoming new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony Award-winning musical PASSION, to be directed by John Doyle (director of the acclaimed Broadway revivals of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd and Company). Joining previously announced Melissa Errico (Clara), Judy Kuhn (Fosca) and Ryan Silverman (Giorgio) in the production are Stephen Bogardus (Colonel Ricci), Jeffry Denman (Lieutenant Barri), Jason Michael Evans (Private Augenti), Amy Justman (understudy), Ken Krugman (Lieutenant Torasso), Orville Mendoza (Sergeant Lombardi), Tom Nelis (Doctor Tambourri) and Will Reynolds (Major Rizzoli/Ludovic). Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin receives a brilliant homage and reinvention with Di Sheyne Milnerin, an originally-devised cycle of twenty songs from the Yiddish repertoire forged into a narrative cycle. Bass-baritone Mark Glanville and pianist Alexander Knapp (also arranger and composer) perform a wonderful variety of Yiddish songs, including arrangements of many well-loved traditional melodies. As in Schubert's original, Di Sheyne Milnerin follows a compelling dramatic trajectory, telling a heart-wrenching tale of unrequited love. The recording follows the success of the duo's widely-performed, Holocaust-focused program and recording, A Yiddish Winterreise. The Nimbus Records release is available now from Allegro Classical. Southport, begins its highly anticipated 2013 season with the exhilarating Broadway musical revue A GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING, running from tonight, January 16 through March 10, 2013. The press opening is Sunday, January 20 at 2 p.m. The Tony Award-nominated musical showcases Richard Rodgers' timeless music and the incomparable lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein. Co-Chairs of the Board of Trustees Stephen Sichak and Ruth Lipper accepted the resignation, acknowledging the distraction the situation could bring to bear on the important work of the Symphony.
