Andrew Constantine, the BSO's popular former Associate Conductor, will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in a 2013-2014 Season Preview Concert on Friday, September 6 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Thursday, September 11 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore. The concert features repertoire from the new season, including compositions by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Gershwin and many more. Maestro Constantine will also serve as the evening's host, providing commentary about each work. (more...)

The Festival's focus is music's capacity to illuminate the many dimensions of our interior lives, with a particular emphasis this year on the power of the voice. Spanning numerous musical traditions, genres, and disciplines, the Festival will offer 23 performances, films, and events featuring seven premieres and debuts by artists and companies from more than a dozen countries, including France, India, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, the U.K., Mali, Estonia, Italy, Austria, Canada and the U.S. New to this edition of the Festival is White Light on Film, film screenings followed by discussions with their directors. The Fourth of July weekend continued at the Bowdoin International Music Festival with an exciting showcase of the festival's young talent: a four-hour lineup of back to back concerts in the Artists of Tomorrow series. The purpose of these recitals is to create a platform where the festival's students, who range in age from fourteen to mid-twenties, can gain experience performing in a supportive environment. In the first two programs which I attended, twenty-five young artists from seven different countries played with passion, verve, and a firm grasp of the essentials of professional concertizing on the stage of the elegant, acoustically excellent Studzinski Recital Hall on the Bowdoin College campus. The International Beethoven Project, led by President and Artistic Director George Lepauw, announced today the international array of visual art components for Beethoven Festival: LOVE 2013, the organization's third annual multidisciplinary festival inspired by the creativity and genius of Ludwig van Beethoven, Sept. 7-15, 2013. An Art Opening free to the public will be held onFriday, Sept. 6 from 6-8 p.m. Joining the extensive musical lineup previously announced, visual art projects for LOVE 2013 range fromoriginal concert hall video installations to the world premiere of Ludwig, a symphonic graphic novel by Canadian Christian Quesnel that follows an impassioned Beethoven through a steampunk universe. The continuation of the festival's art commission serieswill highlight new works by 20 artists and Chicagoan Jason Hawk will contribute a large site-specific sculpture that fills an entire room at the festival's headquarters, Merit School of Music's Joy Faith Knapp Music Center (38 S. Oklahoma features music by Richard Rodgers, and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The Joffrey Ballet kicks off its 2013-14 "Masters of Dance" season with a special addition to its home engagement line-up, a one-weekend-only program titled "Russian Masters" celebrating the centennial of Vaslav Nijinsky's ground-breaking 1913 ballet Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring), alongside George Balanchine's Allegro Brillante and two works by Yuri Possokhov, the Chicago Premiere of Adagio and the return of his 2011 Joffrey commission, Bells. These four powerful works by Russian choreographers and composers are presented in four performances only in the Joffrey's home venue, the historic Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University in downtown Chicago at 50 E.
