Shakespeare Salon Presents Making Shakespeare In The Park With Ferguson, Lind 5/24

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) will continue its popular Shakespeare Salon series on Monday, May 24 at 6 p.m. Shakespeare Initiative Director Barry Edelstein will moderate a discussion on 'Making Shakespeare in the Park: Onstage and Backstage,' featuring a cross-section of cast, crew and creative team members from this summer's repertory productions of The Winter's Tale and The Merchant of Venice at Shakespeare in the Park.

A Noise Within (ANW) concludes its 2009-10 season with celebrated Irish playwright JOHN MILLINGTON SYNGE's THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD directed by Co-Founder/Co-Artistic Director Geoff Elliott, which opens Saturday, April 17 and closes Saturday, May 22, 2010 (previews begin Saturday, April 10). The once controversial play - which sparked riots during and after its debut in Dublin in 1907, was booed in New York four years later, and resulted in the arrest of the Philadelphia cast on charges of staging an immoral performance - has since been recognized as a masterpiece.

This production was specially commissioned by St. Paul's Church Historic Site in Mt. Vernon, and will perform on Saturday, January 9th in what once served as an 18th century church and courtroom space on the grounds of this Westchester landmark. Two encore performances will follow at South Presbyterian Church in Dobbs Ferry on January 15 & 16th.

Hamingson) announced that the 2010 Shakespeare in the Park summer season will present two Shakespeare plays in repertory giving audiences eight straight weeks of free Shakespeare. Under directors Daniel Sullivan and Michael Greif, the same company of actors will perform in both THE WINTER'S TALE and THE MERCHANT OF VENICE on rotating nights.

St. Louis Shakespeare celebrates its 25th year presenting the finest classical theatre. Al Weaver was cast as Hamlet in Trevor Nunn's Old Vic production in 2004 and appeared in the lead role in the National Theatre's Coram Boy. His film credits include Colour Me Kubrick, and The Merchant of Venice. Alice Krige is known to millions for her role as the Borg Queen in the film, Star Trek: First Contact. She received an Olivier Award for Most Promising Newcomer for her debut play Arms and the Man.

Robert Portal makes a welcome return to the role of Richard Hannay in Patrick Barlow's adaptation of The 39 Steps, directed by Maria Aitken, currently in its third year at the Criterion Theatre. On Monday 2 February he joined the current cast members Tessa Churchard, Alan Perrin and Nigel Betts in this hilarious 100 minute whodunnit. Robert Portal first played Hannay from April to October 2007. Since that time the production has enjoyed incredible UK and international success and he returns to a role which is currently played by 14 actors in as many countries across the world.
