A starry Broadway cast portrays Gordon's own family story - complete with a tough Bronx-born father and former 'Borscht Belt' singer/comedian mother - in a tale of two generations' struggles and triumphs in the decades from World War II through the 1990s.

Eric Rosen, artistic director of Kansas City Repertory Theatre, has added CABARET to the Rep's 2010-11 season lineup. The once controversial play - which sparked riots during and after its debut in Dublin in 1907, was booed in New York four years later, and resulted in the arrest of the Philadelphia cast on charges of staging an immoral performance - has since been recognized as a masterpiece.
