by Shari Barrett - Sep 28, 2016

The great genius of contemporary musical theater, creator of Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods and Company, Stephen Sondheim leads audiences on a tuneful revue of presidential assassins and would-be killers from John Wilkes Booth to John Hinckley. The performance is guided by the Proprietor (brilliantly portrayed by Will Shure) who takes you through a most unusual musical history lesson in the form of a carnival game called "Shoot the Prez - Win a Prize" during which the sounds of each era accompany riveting portrayals of history's most impassioned and deranged. With us almost halfway through American Horror Story: Roanoke, the series is getting to a point where it feels like it is spinning its wheels until it reaches the much awaited sixth episode where, as creator Ryan Murphy has promised, the show will reveal a big twist. Most fans have theorized what that twist could be, debating on whether or not it will tie all of the seasons together or if it will explain why AHS chose the docudrama format for this season other than just for aesthetic purposes. The anticipation for the reveal, however, overwhelms any anticipation for the episodes preceding it. (more...)

BWW Recap: Liza's Livin' in a Marshmallow World, & More, on YOUNGER
by Matt Smith - Oct 5, 2016

Of course, that's when she's not involved in her crazy 26-year-old antics, like trying to prevent Kelsey from opening her laptop, lest her secret be blown, or attempting to talk to Charles and figuring out their relationship. Looks like this web is as sticky as the marshmallows!! It's all ahead (or behind, depending on if you've seen the episode or not!) on this week's recap, so if you're intrigued… please, read on:  (more...)

by BWW News Desk - Oct 5, 2016

???????A cast of nine women led by Karen Lynn Gorney bring to life a story of the generational effects of the Holocaust in 'From Silence,' a new play by Anne Marilyn Lucas.  It is widely acknowledged that even as Holocaust survivors are passing on, their trauma lives on in their children and grand children.  This play explores how such trauma is inherited even without being spoken of, seemingly as a genetic or behavioral legacy.  The piece then illustrates that speaking out, processing and understanding can bring healing to families.  This world premiere will be presented by Theater for the New City from November 4 to 20, directed by Peter Zachari. BWW Recap: It's Showtime with Honest Abe on TIMELESS
by Courtney Henley - Oct 11, 2016

Last week's premiere of TIMELESS started off the season with a bang. (Ha, see what I did there? Because the Hindenburg blew up?!) This week's journey takes us to Ford's Theater, April 14, 1865. If that date sounds familiar to you, it should: it's the date President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated while enjoying a performance of Our American Cousin. Flip forward 43 years to last week, and the world has changed much--for better and worse--but ¬ďThe Road to Algiers¬Ē keeps rolling along. Thank heavens for that. (more...)
